Please give me some reasons NOT to buy this!

I don't think I will whatever you say because after getting the entire softtop nicked off a Landy earlier this year I won't risk a softtop again where I live. I just think that much car with LPG etc for so little must be a way to quick financial ruin?

It looked fine to me until I saw the back. I'm funny about the rear of cars, I dislike the current Bentley Mulsanne for the same reason.

Makes you think twicw when the advert says they part exchange anything, and they appear to have proven it.

Could the carpets be knackered due to an ill fitting roof ?

I think you could get something a little nicer for similar cash.....

sorry to be negative !

It will be rusty and the back pair of sparkplugs will not have been changed for a very long time.

Plenty of nicer XJS's out there for the same or not much more cash. I had a 1995 Celebration, cost me 4k but was stunning and the only car I wish i'd never sold. Prices for good uns are on the rise but 4/5k will get you a very very nice Celebration. Oh and for that you get a nice modern AJ16 4.0 lump which won't rape your wallet.

am not keen on the softops versions myself, though i do like them in black with quad headlamp conversion.

you should not even consider buying a XJS without an extremely thorough examination, especially the underside/ sills, and subframe mount area. as well as a good test drive of course.

as others have said, there are plenty of xjs's for sale out there, os dont rush into it.

another important thing is, will you work on it yourself? i think all XJS's can be expensive to run if you are paying top wack garage prices.
i try and do all the work myself, otherwise i could not afford it.

I dont like the fact that even the badges have been sprayed black, with a TWR body kit, which could suggest its been fitted to hide a multitude of sins.. HOWEVER if the interior and the engine bay is as presentable as the exterior it could suggest its a car thats been looked after by an enthusiast. Quick easy check, look through the back wheels, if the silver hubs are clean and greased then its been looked after

Anything except welding/painting/needs a big press then yes I would.

TBH, I'm not seriously looking yet. I do fancy a Jag but I think I'll end up with a XJ40 or X300 as I can't stretch to a nice Series 3 XJ6. I figured this was one to run away from so it's nice to get those thoughts confirmed.
