What can you tell me about this Airport??
Discussion
Wisley was the main airfield of Vickers Aircraft Ltd. From there, lots of famous aircraft were tested - the Viscount, Valiant, VC-10 etc. It was constructed because the runway at nearby Brooklands was too short for the newer, heavier aircraft being developed towards the end of World War 2.
As far as I am aware, the runway still exists.

Thanks guys, on Google Earth it appears superficially to be in reasonable nick, who owns it now and is used for anything. I’m thinking it could be used for a little bit of local drag race action as I only live half an hour away
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisley_Airfield"In March 2010, the then-Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, John Denham, gave permission to Wharf Land Investments to build a composting facility on the airfield. The plant would be capable of processing 30,000 tonnes of waste per year, and take up 17 hectares (42 acres) of the airfield"
From the pic on wiki the surface wouldn't be suitable at all, I doubt its improved since then.

A mate lived in one of the villages nearby, and in the 90's when they first owned cars, they would lift the gate off it's hinges for access to the VOR navigational beacon and race their cars up and down the runway in the middle of the night. The local farmer had constructed barriers over the runway, but you could still drive up the sides of the runway.Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
