Just bought my second Cerb, god help me.
It's been de-catted and sports exhaust fitted. Much too loud for me.
Putting the cats back on is out of the question (tried but one is glowing). I can't get hold of a genuine back box, which is what I really want.
Any ideas to quieten this beast to a reasonable level?

Have you tried ebay and the classifieds on here? im sure i saw a standard exhaust back box for sale the other day. Act do some silencers that go in place of the cats.

I could do with a genuine back box too, but for a 4.5, if anyone has one for sale.

Lol no! I sold it last month! Now have a Freelander2. Running cost of the Disco were getting silly.

Still got the plate for sale though D15CDV (DISCOV)- looks great on the car

Hello everybodu
just a little message to explain to you all my "exhaust" stories.
I'm leaving in Paris, great city, but full of police men and people that are whouting when they cross a noisy car.
When i bought my 4.5 Cerbie to Fernhurst, it was equiped by a sport exhaust, that was loud, yes, too loud for Paris. But great noise !
So i bought a blue flame one, that was as far as i know was the equipment that TVR proposed as sport exhaust.
Quite loud too.
Now, i found a standard blackbox, two decats. And the result is what i was expecting :
- i think the car is more powerful (maybe an impression, but i feel that the decats were keeping a lot of power);
- the sound of the car is really acceptable when you drive "normaly" : not so noisy
- when you go faster, the sound is quite good, maybe sounding "higher" than before, but pops and bangs are always there (sometimes it sounds as a guy uses a gun : incredible !!!)

Hope it helps

Guys I had a new ACT exhaust fitted at Str8six and left my genuine back box with them to dispose of, it would be worth calling Jason to see if it's still in the scrap bin ..... Just a thought

Act have a quiet system. I have it fitted to my car. It has silencing along the long centre pipes, the sports rear type silencing, plus extra silencing in the tailpipes. Its 106 db decanted on my car and I'm not missing any power (380bhp) and it's significantly lighter then the original back box, and has lots more road clearance.

They also have some additional silencers instead of cats to drop the volume further.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll be going down the route of silencers of some kind where the cats should be, then a standard back box. I've managed to source a backbox now.

:-) disco is about a grand a year for repairs plus servicing.
Neither are without engine, the cerb is without my engine. The rebuild is complete. Just trying to agree some stuff.
