MR2 1.8 VVTI - anything to watch out for?
Discussion
Hi Kim,
Funny to find you asking about these!
I had one for 5 years/50k miles, in my opinion they are fantastic cars.
A few things to look out, most of which I'm sure will be covered in the previous posters links, but in my experience;
- original Toyota wheels constantly corrode - had mine done on several occasions, bad design
- watch out for accident damage, short wheelbase, lightweight meant they were easily lost if too enthusiastic
- oil leaks not unheard of
- drivers side seat bolster wear due to the need to swivel round to get out
- hood design was awesome but as with all cabriolets needed to be put down properly
- hardtop only came from new, plenty with the hooks for them to attach to but without the actual hardtop with the car (many sold seperately which is daft when they could only go on cars specified with the hardtop from new)
