Hi there,
My father has an opportunity to buy a local V8S and with there being so few sold recently and none that I can see for sale I wondered if you kind owners/enthusiasts could give an idea on its value.
The car is Maroon with Cream (Biscuit) Leather. It's been dry stored, covered and ran one or twice a year (around the block) in the last 15 years and covered only 38k miles. The body and interior are very good with it doing so few miles. The outriggers show some surface rust in the joints etc. but overall quite good. The car needs tyres & brakes renewing and of course a full major service.
Last MOT was well over 10 years ago and no history since sold by David Gerald TVR in 2003.
I appreciate it's not ideal to give a figure without seeing the car but any opinions would be appreciated.

Given the difficulty in telling the difference between a good'un and a bad'un, I'd recommend getting it professionally inspected and valued. There are a few TVR specialists who will do this for you. Rob Ingleby is the first name that comes to mind but there are many others and you probably want to look for one in your region.
Thanks for the replies. Specialist isn't really an option as no-one really local and my father is pretty handy with the spanners.
Lets say worst case scenario is body off and a chassis tidy up. The body & interior are very very good. I was thinking £8k. £10k is not too far away but it's got no MOT and needs new tyres, brakes etc. to make for a safe drive. Does £8k sound reasonable?

Tyres, brakes and a full major service are to be expected on a car that's had little use. Even if you had to have the outriggers done £8k would be good price, but that does depend on the condition of everything else. Chassis condition on a car like this is always a bit of a gamble and you'd be well advised to get it all checked carefully.

But even a ramp inspection can miss rot on the tops of the tubes because they are so difficult to see.

Chassis looks fairly good with a little tidying required, lots of red paint still present. Windscreen delaminating (large patch) in bottom drivers corner so will need to budget for that. A few paint chips that have taken place while being manoeuvred in and out of the garage over the years but apart from that the paint looks original with its V8S factory pinstripes along the bottom of the car. Running Chimaera Alloys which seem quite common although not sure they were an option on the V8S? Drivers side bonnet catch seems to problematic and not catching. Owner is going to oil and have a fiddle to ensure all is ok. Hood needs a good clean and possibly a Renovo treatment. Interior is very clean and as you would expect of a 38k mile car that hasn't been used for 15 years.
Popping round again on Tuesday to hear it running and take it around the block. Battery has been off the car and the owner wants to charge it and run though a few checks before firing it up again.
Fingers crossed there's a deal to be had.
Thanks for the info guys.

Maroon with cream leather is a top colour combination and in my opinion adds to the value. Dark interiors do not sell as well, especially black (black seats in an open car on a sunny day been there, done that, got the scorched T shirt!).
Probably need to get all the discs off and skimmed or changed and the hydraulics will need a full bleed and may well need the flexi pipes and seals changed. But that is all fair enough re-commissioning work.
Check the fuel piping, and flexi hosing (the main pipe front to back may be metal and have flexi either end, or be flexi all through) it will need changing as it wont last long with modern fuel.
You are likely to have a few electrical gremlins as it is a grp body of course and earth faults are common. Often just a case of unscrew, clean up, vaseline or copperslip and it is good again. You may have a few connectors in exposed places like head/side light wiring which are too badly corroded to be worth keeping but Car Builder Solutions have an amazing range of good stuff for upgrading connections. We would all say DONT use 'scotchlok' type repairs, except as a get you home.
Headlamp bulbs have come on a lot since it was last used and there will probably be 'glowworms' in there. Corrosion of reflectors is common but the lights are pretty cheap. A few people have gone for modern 'halo' types but the majority feeling is that they don't look right on this car.
Tyres may appear good but if it has stood that long they will be out of date by now. Dont mess around, that car is quite a beast and you really risk it (and yourself!) if you dont fit new GOOD tyres. Favourite at the moment is probably Dunlop Blue Response.
