Might have been discussed before on here knowing you lot.

Q. Were the Muira, DB5 Volante, E-Types all actually wrecked?

Q. If they were then are the wrecks still in the bottom of the ravines near the Italian Border?

Cheers.

The Miura was one that had previously been in a big crash, and the owner had died, so it wasn't wrecked in the film, but prior to filming

The Aston wasn't an Aston, if you look at it as it falls down the ravine the bonnet opens the wrong way.

martin buckley ('cars in films' - a book well worth reading)states that the aston that was wrecked was actually an alfa spider mocked up to look like an aston. The book also includes this pic of a Mr Caine getting all Basil Fawlty on one of the E types

On a related matter I was told by the owner of a fiat dino i was admiring that it was the one used by the mafia boss in the film.

Fifth Gear did a special episode on the film a few years ago. From memory, the Aston was accidentally damaged the day before the shoot, so a replacement was made to look similar, as mentioned above. The Miura was a rolling chassis provided by Lamborghini - you can see that there's no engine when it crashes down the mountainside.

As for the E-Types, I believe they were both real and destroyed but I'm happy to be corrected.

I believe the 'Aston' as it tumbles down the side of the mountain is a Lancia Flaminia hurridly converted to look like the Aston.

I think the Miura that was thrown down the cliff was a real one that belonged to an Arab who crashed it, and killed himself in the process.

The Jag coupe was one of the very first made and was indeed wrecked, but very recently restored IIRC. They did have an Aston, it didn't roll how they wanted it to or something, so used a disguised Lancia Flaminia. Miura was an accident damaged wreck.
