I spent the weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and it was hot and dusty!

This year was a major celebration of F1's 75th anniversary (and for the first time was an FIA sanctioned event). But more of F1 later, as there was still plenty of variety....

The odd (some brave / certifiable soul has managed 87mph on this!!!)

The sublime:

The downright spooky:

The beautiful:

The smokey:

The brilliantly bonkers:

...and even things in the air!

As ever, 'Mad' Mike Whiddett in his 4-rotor Mazda RX7 put on fine show...

I'm note sure this was entirely planned, and the car 'failed to proceed' shortly after...

It is well known that the current generation of F1 cars are somewhat large, but there were a few twin-car runs on Sunday which really brought it home to me just how big they are.

My, how you've grown!

Shadow produced some of the most dramatic (and bonkers!) racing cars of all time IMHO, and it was great to see a few being driven (quickly!) up the hill...

Filipe Massa drove this Ferrari F2008 which so, so nearly took him to the world drivers championship.

After a couple of 'sighter' runs, he really was making very rapid progress indeed.

On this quick run, he locked the front of the car briefly coming into Molecomb...

As I am sure most of you know, each year a manufacturer (usually) is celebrated with a central feature outside of Goodwood house.

This year it was Gordon Murray Automotive.

The sculpture features 'Speed Head' from the GMA logo...
