The Joy of Running an Old Shed
Discussion
Anyone else have share the perverse joy of running a car they don't care about?
As much as I love the supercars, rarities and classics often posted on PH, there is something to be said about an old shed.
I'm currently running a '10 Nissan Pixo, rarely washed and complete with a decent-sized car park scrape.
It's nice being able to park anywhere, not care if it gets a dent or scratch and generally not worry about it.
Anyone else find an odd feeling of freedom and joy driving a crap car or am I just a bit weird?

I remember using a Rent-a-Wreck place in Fremantle in Western Australia.
First car was a Mazda 121. Boot catch was broken, so the boot lid bounced up and down over every bump!
Swapped it for a Holden Barina (Suzuki Swift in the UK) which was an old shed, but did a 1000km trip with no issues at all.
Even took it on the dirt roads off the main highway.

This thread has taken off much more than I expected.
It seems many of us are serial shedders, so what does your shedding history look like and what are the best and worst sheds from your past shedding career?
I've mostly had cheap Japanese sheds as daily runners; 3x Micra, 2x Jazz, Yaris, even a Matiz Auto, currently in a cheap Nissan Pixo.
Worst: A 70k mile '03 Matiz 796cc Auto owned when I lived in South Korea. Looked like a fridge, sounded like a washing machine and it was so slow, you couldn't go uphills without turning the A/C off.
Best: Probably an '03 Yaris Auto bought from a fastidious old chap. It was like brand new, tiny mileage, cared for like it was a Bentley. Did 38k miles over 2.5 years including a 4-week jaunt around Norway and Sweden in it. Most reliable car I've ever had, until someone reversed out on me and killed it off.

Seen lots of shed motors in Readers Cars recently, so thought I'd update this thread.
I've now owned my Nissan Pixo Shed for exactly 12 months.
Bought it with 23k miles and I've added another 21k over the past year!
Passed its MOT with no issues today and I've only spent a few quid on tyres/wipers/pads and a wheel bearing plus a whole £20 in tax.
Still abandoned wherever and keeps going strong.

The SLK story made me chuckle.
Took my '07 Shed Micra to the garage to diagnose a squeaky belt.
My mechanic told me it isn't broken, so turn up the music and ignore the squeak until it pisses you off too much.
It's embarrassing squeaking around town, but I won't be fixing it for a while.
Proper shedding

Great news for the Galaxy, the thread wouldn't be the same without it.
Managed to fix the annoying squeak on ShedMicra with a new aux belt.
Went a bit mad after that and treated it to some new wiper blades.
My total spend is now £67 over 3500 miles (plus a free wash with today's rain!)

£4k spent on servicing and repairs?

Think he missed a bit.

Woman parked way too close in ASDA tonight, then tried to squeeze out of her door.
She had clearly underestimated her weight class given the tiny gap, so ended up knocking her door against mine.
I looked across, she smiled an awkward apology.
I simply chuckled and didn't care in the slightest.
Only in a shed.
