Just seen Porsche have just released a 911 T, nice to see its not a limited edition and has all the right bits for the enthusiastic driver, PASM, LSD, manual box with shorter gearing and optional buckets as well.

Looks like they have answered all the criticism about only making halo cars no one can actually buy, it will be very interesting to see how well it sells as it probably won’t attract speculators.

Anyone going for one ?

Think this is my ideal spec,
Sports buckets - I find these very comfortable and supportive.
PCM - so I don’t get lost.
Rear seats - so it’s gets used more often
Matching seat belts - my one frippery
Rear parking sensors - because I can be a muppet sometimes.

All in just under £89k.

I reckon it may well be more than the sum of its parts just like my Boxster Spyder which would have to go, hopefully funding 50% it, but it would be brand new and more useable weekends.

Umm very interested think I need to drive one of these turbo 3 ltrs and see what they are all about but as I put fun factor over outrageous speed it might be just the ticket....

GT silver, red seat belts and rear park assist £87.5k PCM and rear seats back in job done! As they say less is more
Visited the garage Friday afternoon with my wife, she agreed we can use her car as the family wagon especially as oldest learns to drive v soon, agreed a days test drive this Saturday as didn’t have much time.

Slept on it but got more concerned I might be too late this weekend so after mulling it over put my deposit down on Sunday afternoon.

I have about five specs going but settling on the same as you but added park assist front and upgraded headlights.

Love the yellow but not sure I could drive something so in ya face every day, Silver is far more discreet.

Planning on keeping the Spyder but will see come the summer.

I have a deposit down, I understand I was the third or may be fourth one this dealership had taken at that point.

When I spoke to him Late Sunday I asked what I had to do to secure one and he said just pay the deposit which I did and he put through first thing Monday, so I will be gutted if I don’t get one.

How do they decide whose deposit gets returned and who gets the car? Is it first come first served or do their regular customers get first dibs?

I am worried now as I only have a receipt for the deposit and no formal contract although I have sent through my spec, the salesman has been away on a course tues wed so I will try and nail him down tomorrow.

I would rather have the T if I am honest more chance of getting the wifey to travel in it than something with a big leary spoiler, although I am sure a R in a discreet colour would be okay too.

Does anyone know how they get allocated?

Yeah me to.

The conversation on Sunday went along the lines of booked test drive in 3ltr turbo for this Saturday but am concerned at the buzz on the internet about them, how do I make sure I secure one? Answer was pay me a £5k deposit, so I rang back ten mins later and he made a note of my card number and said he would put it through first thing Monday.

He did 8:10 am Monday and I got a receipt that says ‘deposit for 911t’

We even talked about likely delivery in Jan and agreed a figure on my BM I want to trade in (although I am sure he will want to see it too) & last night I settled on spec and confirmed that via email.

Call me old fashioned but I am expecting the right car in Jan...but sounds as if it isn’t quite as straight forward, will try and find out tomorrow.

Yep very good.

My logic.....

Don’t think I can remember Porsche ever making a bad more driver focused model of the 911 hopefully I get to find out.

Other more driver focused models like the slow burner like 987.2 Boxster Spyder get their recognition in the end.

Ve vill see.

You will, or should, get a New Vehicle Order Form in the next few days. It runs to nearly 30 pages listing out all of the details of your order including the full spec. If you had been at the dealer in person when making the deposit, you will have been given it then. This still doesn't guarantee you a car but at least evidences commitment from the dealer.

The order goes to the factory where they will allocate a Commission Number. Get one of these and you will get a car. A week or two later, you will get an invite from PEC Silverstone to attend an instruction session. You can continue to modify your spec right up until the order locks. All dealers delight in hearing every other day from their client with a desire to add this, delete that, etc. Go to showrooms and check out features on their stock cars to be sure you're happy with your order.

Your dealer can give you regular updates from just before production is due to start, up to when the car rolls off the boat in Blighty. You will find that time stands still during this period, yet it's all very exciting.

Be realistic about delivery date. My dealer said production commences Jan and that UK deliveries commence March and that mine will probably arrive April; but then the dealer could be wrong.

The car will be great.

Thanks Whizzbang

That’s very informative and most useful, I haven’t been in the lucky position of buying one brand new before so didn’t know the process, in fact all my brand new cars have only ever been company ones and limited choice or info it just turns up on a truck.

I remember ordering my company Ford Orion 1.6 LX choices were limited to base colours, red, white or blue, the internal form said something like first colour preference and second choice, so I put blue and then white heard the car was coming went to the bosses office and his secretary says it’s the red one over there.

I was still delighted 😀

Well I have been told I have definitely got one, it will be one of the first ones they get next year.

Got a big contract through to read today.

I have given them a build code but may well tweak it. PJRC8KM8.

I am now a very happy Chappy 😄.

Popped in Friday afternoon and put my deposit down (also £5k) late on Sunday and believe I was the third or fourth person to do so, but it is a fairly new dealership.

Got their demo for a day tomorrow, to experience the 3 ltr turbo engine and PASM, not sure the demo is a manual or C2 but I have already bought it in my head anyway so unless it just catastrophicly uncomfortable it’s a done deal.

I did test drive an M2 did like the size, the go it had, the handling but really didn’t like the ride, felt as comfortable and composed as falling down stairs on the roads round here, the Misses hated it too.

I was casually looking at a leanly spec’ed base Carrera and perhaps a 991.1 until this got launched and that was special enough to drag me off the fence to commit.

Not sure when I might get it but at least I know it coming..

Happy motoring one and all..

Mine is all confirmed and sorted.

GT Silver, Park F&R, front axle lift, fancy headlights, red seat belts. PCM & rear seats.

Del date not confirmed but build could be March so April delivery, I will discuss possibly collecting it in the future (there was a great story of factory collection around here a few weeks ago) but believe they have an issue with winter tyres so it may be too early in the year.

Bobtherallyfan I hope you get what you want, I was looking at a very near base Carrera before the T came out and dragged me out of indecision, if you know what you want go knock their door they were very helpful with me. I hope you enjoy the process.

Ed

Gosh Bob that seems unfair if they have taken a deposit and you and they have signed the new order form I think they should deliver on it.

I really hope it works out for you.

Oh darn it I have been stupid again and fallen for the cynical marketing having fallen for the 987.2 Spyder which is in my garage and having agreed to buy a 991 Carrera T as well.

I must say I have got form in this regard though.
My first weekend toy was a mint E30 M3 and they are rubbish can’t give them away now, my second was a 964 also rubbish, I agreed a deal on a 996 GT3 but trading in the 964 just got to hard so I pulled out and bought a Ferrari 360 Modena which was complete crap so I only kept it 6 years.

Never mind, I hope I have better judgement this time.

Hi Mario

Thank you for taking the time to write your views.

I am hoping it could be the best one for accessible fun. I think 370 bhp, shorter ratios, lower suspension, a LSD with a bit less noise insulation could be perfect for on the road.

I am 100% certain all the more powerful others, despite the minor weight saving of the T, will be quicker round a circuit but it’s the best balance for a road car that I am after. I am also sure an experienced track driver will have 3 to 5 seconds on me even if I had a faster car.

It could well be the ideal car that you can actually drive in a spirited way on the road without things getting a bit intense and crossing into license loosing territory.

Thanks again
Ed

I am pretty sure I have heard the turbo units on the standard Carrera and hence the T are different than the S, pretty sure it was mentioned in Harry M’s video.

I think he said the T doesn’t have variable geometry of the S turbo units... but I couldn’t say how that changes the driving characteristics of one versus the other.

Over to someone more informed... please.
