I've got a couple of 911's, but recently bought a 924 from 1984.

Supposedly not a real Porsche, slow, engine in the wrong place, blah blah...

Totally different animal, of course, but really enjoying it. Nicely built, well-balanced period piece.

Wondering if a Mondial 8 would give me a similar kick?

Yes, it's the slow one. The unglamorous one. I kind of like that.

Plus, my budget is only £25-30k.

So, what's the view on the Mondial 8? Under-appreciated classic? Or the runt of the litter?

Well, I've taken the plunge.

A beautiful 1984 Mondial QV in time-warp condition.

Pick her up Friday. Photos to follow...

Will post some pics at the weekend.

4rephill was right, though - my initial £30k budget was £10k short!

Buy the best you can afford - that's always the advice, right?

Anyway, watch this space...

Just completed the 365-mile drive from Italia Autosport up in the Peak District to home here in Cornwall.

Happy to say I'm the lucky new custodian of John Pogson's Argento/Bordeaux Mondial QV, made famous in this film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHkU1h_sKM4

He gave me a masterclass in how to drive it properly yesterday - that alone was worth the trip!

Quick photo, soon after leaving Italia Autosport. Taken outside a great pub - The Lamb in Chinley - nice overnight stay before today's sunny, epic drive down to Cornwall.

Absolutely lovely, great colour for them too.
Is it running the Superformance alloys so you can use normal tyres?
Yes it is - good spot.

Just heard from David Lillywhite (erstwhile editor of Octane, Enzo and now Magneto) that my QV has made the Petrolicious cut: i.e. as one of their curated group of show cars. Looks like it'll be in some eclectic and exotic company:

How do you feel about the Mondial now. Looking at your garage you’ve had a couple of fun cars, in particular the SEAC.

Is this now your favourite?
I wouldn’t say that. I enjoy the variety, the differences between the cars. Their back stories, design, engineering, feel, etc. What John Pogson calls ‘Petrolheadism’ in the Mondial video. Today was a QV day. Tomorrow, I’ll probably take the 924 to work! Wednesday, my 964 gets its refurbished BBS wheels back on. Mind you, I’ve just got a new job in London so may need to rationalise!

Off-topic, I know, but here's my 1990 Porsche 911 C4 Cabriolet - reunited with its gold BBS RS wheels. (These were originally fitted by the supplying dealer.) Mondial QV and Porsche 924 in the background.

I imported them from Texas and had them fully refurbished by split-rim wizard Richie Reynolds in Exeter...

Look forward to hearing how the road trip went, belfry. And to seeing the photos.

Quick snap of the QV in London’s mean streets (Chiswick!)...

Reluctantly, now for sale. See listing on PistonHeads.
New job forces sale, as they say. Really!

It’s a fantastic car but I’m just not using it, partly because of the intensity of the new job, and partly because Marylebone Road doesn’t beckon in the same way that Cornwall’s open roads did (outside of peak holiday season!). London’s ULEZ Charge, Congestion Charge and, er, congestion all conspire against the kind of spirited daily driving I enjoyed out West. Great car; deserves to be enjoyed.

Now booked into H.R. Owen Ferrari London for its annual service on 25th October.

So the next owner will have the confidence of a fresh, Ferrari service (c.£900) and a clean (no advisories) MOT through to August 2020.

Quick update: got the QV serviced at HR Owen Ferrari in London. I passed on a couple of (to me) cheeky offers. So the car is in professional storage in Buckinghamshire. If she sells, fine; if not, roll on Spring - Bicester's April Scramble is pencilled in!
