So going on from my last build thread that did not end that well https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... i have just picked up my new replacement .

I had been thinking about what to get and was looking at all different types of cars and was even thinking about turning my daily I30N in to my next track car https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

After reading up on a few different options like EP3/FN2 CTR , MX5 , GT86 etc i came down on the side of keeping to FWD as this is what i have had the most and feel happy with the FWD set up ( i know RWD is the connoisseurs choice ) so it was then on to going through all the FWD options that there are .

With all the research done and mind made up my plan was to sell the I30N and then get something that would be good on track but also ok on the road as this would now take up the duties of track / road car ( i do very few miles as i use public transport so the biased was for a more focused track car ) so would need to be able to handle both requirements .

So on to the new car then and as per the title i have picked up a Renault Megane 250 Cup in extreme Blue .

I was after a cup model with the RS monitor ( a basic version of information display like oil temps , inlet temps , lap timer , G meter erc ) and in Extreme Blue .

After looking at what was around it became clear that they are not a very common car and very rare in the extreme Blue colour i was after as they was only 18 made in this colour .

After a few weeks of no luck i was going to start to look at different colour options but really wanted the Extreme Blue but then one got listed on pistonheads and was only 2 hours away so i rang the chap up and asked if i could view the car ASAP .

After have a good look round and test drive i left a deposit and last weekend picked up my new Megane 250 Cup .

Below are a couple of pics from the listing .

I have not had chance to drive it much yet but it all ready feels special and can see it will be a very fun car .

I have lots of plans and many things / parts i want to put on the car so will look to update this on going .

Very excited and cant wait to get this out on track ASAP .

Awesome! I'm in the market for one of these in a couple of months - hope I can find one as tasty as this.

Is the car standard?
I think I was lucky that this one popped up at the right time .

There are a few upgrades on the car that I will post up later.

Stunning that. Always preferred these over the next model with the huge Renault badge on the front.

Glad to see your back at it! Was gutted to see the fiesta come to a premature end. Never commented on the thread but was one of the first ones I always looked for was a great read to see improvement after improvement.

Hope you enjoy the M gane and look forward to seeing the upgrades
Many thanks and it was fun adding upgrades to the fiesta and I will look to do the same to the megane and keep this thread updated .

Great looking car!

Has it got a blue tint on the wheels or is that just a reflection?
No wheels are in a black finish no blue .

Extreme Blue is super rare in itself. Can’t see if it has Recaros, it doesn’t have lighting pack (Xenons and LED drls) but the RS monitor is a rare option (it’s a bit crap really hehe

Looks lovely OP, love a bit of extreme blue!
It has leather Recaros and no lighting pack .

RS monitor is like a cheep Nissan GTR unit but does have a few good options like oil temps and inlet temps .

Leather recaros are a nice option thumbup

Those are Tibor wheels as well, optional if I remember, or were they the standard wheel. It’s been a while hehe
The Recaros are very nice and a bit of a shame as they will be being changed for some more focused bucket seat options .

Good spot on the Tibor wheels and you are correct in that they were an option .

Only other option on the car is the rear parking sensors .

How did I miss this?!?

Absolutely fantastic. Obviously, I'm disappointed to see yet another move over to the Renault 'dark side' but they're fantastic cars, great value, with a world of bits and pieces easy to get hold of. God bless you for buying something other than white though!

Best of luck with it - can't wait to see what you do with it.
Yes i have gone all French again im afraid but you are correct that there are very good out of the box and the tuning parts for them is vast so that should see me a lot poorer but i will have fun spending money on it even if the Mrs said it is pointless spending money on a car that you will just crash !!!!.

I Really had my heart set on a extreme Blue one but finding one was a nightmare but go there in the end .

Going on from picking up the car a few weekends ago i have got it up in the air and given it a good look over ( you can only do so much when test driving / looking at a new car ) and all looks to be in good order and nothing major that needs attention apart from a cambelt change next year .

The car is stock but does have a few little upgrades that have all ready been done .

First up the last owner changed the diamond Renault badges for Black units and i think this looks better than the chrome units that are stock on the car so i will keep them .

Next up the car is running a full set of BC coilovers BR series with adjustable top mounts for camber and has 7 Kg front and 7 Kg rear springs so a good set up for road and track .

The car is also running a 3 inch cat back Scorpion exhaust system with black exhaust exit cover . I may look to change this in the future but it is not too loud so i might keep it .

The car also has a Maxton Design rear spoiler extension and again i think this goes well with the car so will keep this on .

The car has a rear wiper delate so this should save a few Kg so again will stay on the car .

Last up the car is running an ITG induction kit but as this is mounted very low at the front of the car i have removed this and will look to change this for a K-Tec unit that sits at the rear of the engine bay .

The ITG performs very well but i would be worried on wet days that it could suck up water or going through puddles could be a risk .

Removed .

Future plans are to add a few more suspension parts , improve cooling for track , Remap , add a roll cage , bucket seats , remove some weight etc .

As this will be my road car as well as my track car i will try and keep things sensible and not strip the car for weight ( too much ) and make it unbearable to drive on the road .

Looking forward to seeing the running totals on weight saving after how in-depth the Fiesta's diet was...
The 250 cup weighs 1372 Kg and I would like to get it under 1300 Kg but will not be going too silly as I need to keep it livable on the road so will just look at lightweight battery , seats , wheels etc .

I bought a Suzuki Jimny not long ago for my partner which had all sorts of 4x4 tat bolted on. Inspired by your old Fiesta build I measured everything I took out and managed to shed 72kg biggrin
Good effort removing 72 Kg as I found out on the Fiesta it is not easy finding extra weight to remove after you do the big items like battery , wheels etc .

Nice Megane, I love that colour. With regards to the ITG – I'm running the same induction kit on my Megane and was concerned as well about how low it is, so I called ITG to talk to them about it.

They reassured me that they have customers all over the world that experience proper monsoons, including customers running open cones that get very wet on old 911s and they've never heard of any issues. Goes without saying I still wouldn't want to drive through a flood with it fitted, but I think for the occasional wet track day, you'll be fine.
Thanks for the info on the ITG it just looked a bit low so was worried about wet conditions.

I might still try the K-Tec as it will be easy to clean and if I dont like it I can allways re install the ITG .

I recognise that Megane. A mate had a blue one with yellow calipers. Do you know the original reg?

I ran the ITG in mine for years, and driven through flooded roads, and in monsoon spec trackdays and never had an issue. It does also add a bit of power, and a great noise.

The BCs may be 8f, 7r, as they're a common for track Meganes. I had them on my old (blue ironically) Megane, and had that setup.

This was my old one. It ended up on 7Days too: https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-french/renault...
No sorry not sure on the original reg .

That is two votes of confidence for the ITG then so I may keep this .

The BC are 7 and 7 after I have checked but I can allways swap them for firmer if I want later .

I did read you thread and got some good ideas from that so thank you in advance smile

was watching this car on ebay for a while when the ad was up it looked like a good car! nice to see you got it having seen your fiesta it will be improved somehow!

i always follwed your ST build thread as I had one but funnily enough I have just made the exact same jump and purchased an RS265 which i'm picking up this week
TBH i was going to wait for a bit but really wanted a Extreme Blue one and this was the only one i could fine for sale in the country at that time .

There will be a fair few updates with new and upgraded parts that will / are on the car .

What RS265 did you go for as i did look at them as well as there were a few good ones for sale at the time .

Great thread! I too am currently modding my meg into a track car. It's a 265 with a hybrid turbo

I currently have the KTEC intake and am looking to swap to the ITG. These cars suffer heat soak quite badly - I would say the ITG is the way to go! I would keep it. If you sell it I'll have it!
Ok i will have a think i have read that they are both good and the ITG is in a better location for cold air but the K-tec has a heat shield and is in a better location for access etc .
