Bertie Ahern, the ex Irish PM, famously remarked in an interview years previous to becoming PM that he could safely drive home on 5 or 6 pints of Bass I think it was. What a gobste.
Yes but he did live next door to a pub.

Surely it depends on the session length.

I had a yesterday and was ok.

I started at 1 and finished at 11 though.

In one day in Ibiza recently i drank atleast ten pints and ten shots, including 2 vodka jelly shots the most horrid things ever.
Although, this was in ibiza so probably watered down.
I dont usually drink that much but it was my 18th so hey what the heck

I'm 35 and a regular drinker but not yet an alcoholic.

2 weeks ago I attended a stag party in Cardiff with a load of doctors, funnily enough. There was a kitty and we ensured we all drank the same throughout, religiously..

Between 11am and 3am the following day, we had each consumed 12 pints if lager, 1 tequila, 1 Sambuca, 3 shotz (?), 2 smirnoff ice, 1 WKD blue, and half a bottle of Absolute vodka (each - 3 x bottles between 6 of us at a club)... That's what I can remember, there may have been more. Oddly, I didnt have a hangover, but I did watch Hangover 2 the next morning.

I reckon, because I knew it was going to happen, my body prepared itself.

I can drink a bottle of wine myself on a Tuesday night and wake up with a hangover.

What's that all about?

I'm the biggest lightweight you will ever meet. Once I had 1 bottle of bud and had to go home cos my head started to spin. In my defence I hadn't eaten all day.
But still, I'm st at drinking.

When I've had too much (four pints) I don't do the fannying around like a hyperactive six year old then pick a fight thing. It just makes me feel sick then I go to bed.

Party animal. \m/

I don't claim to be a big drinker, but i can hold a fair amount without making a tit of myself. Last year i attended a wedding in Poland, where the reception party consists of 12 - 13 hours of drinking straight vodka from a shot glass, and eating a lot of food.

I was nervous as hell in the lead up to the wedding, as i wasn't too keen on vodka, and apart from soft drinks, it was the only alcohol on offer. Unlike a typical British Wedding function, there was no public bar as such where you could buy whatever drink you want. The Wedding party actually buys 2 bottles of vodka per guest invited to the wedding, and are offended if any is left at the end of the party. So as you can imagine, people are all too happy to try and drink all the vodka.

I managed to keep up with most of the Polish people of my sort of age range, and the morning after felt a little rough, but nothing like a hangover i'e ever had from going out in the UK. It must be all the food i packed away that night, as they serve around 8 to 10 different courses throughout the night, last course being around 2 hours before the end of the party.

I still have a fairly good tolerance for alcohol as I drink every day, but after 10 pints (if I could get them down nowadays) I wouldnt be claiming sobriety.
It also depends what you are drinking, 10 pints of Carling would be a lot easier to hang on to than 10 of Stella or Lowenbrau.
Friends that normally drink the local 4% stuff here are destroyed after 4 or 5 pints of 5.5 or 6% lager.

I'm a small lad but could manage 10 pints.. Maybe I should give up drinking for a bit to make my nights out cheaper?

I was just going to post something similar.

hang of a difference between downing many pints of a gassy, chilled so you cant taste it, mass market lager, designed to be drunk in large quantities and say trying to get through a few pints of All Gates Mad Monk (7.1% ABV)

I'm not really one for pints but it used to be such that I could drink a bottle of wine and be hammered for the whole night; now I'm merely merry and need a further 3 doubles and some shots before I could claim to be 'off my face'. That said I managed a bottle of cava, half a bottle of white, a pitcher of sex on the beach and several shots on my birthday a few weeks ago and was pretty okay.

It's beginning to get quite expensive to get drunk now frown

I've found that if i'm having a "hair of the dog" the day after a big session i can drink a lot more. After about four or five pints of wife beater the night before i would have been slurring my words but the next day i could drink ten pints and it wouldn't effect me. This doesn't always happen though! hehe.

The time frame is more relevant than the volume. I went on a stag do a few months back and drank almost constantly for around 15 hours. Whilst I definitely wasn't sober I wasn't falling over drunk.

I know a panel beater who is about ten stone wet but as tough as they come, who will polish off at least 10-15 cans of beer a day, every day.
He suffers from epilepsy and bleeds whern he goes to the toilet, which has been happening for years now but it dont stop him.
He always seems sober.

+1.

At 17/18 I could do the same. Many a saturday was passed the following way:

Start on lager at lunch time with mates whilst working on car, drink steadily all afternoon. Tea and more beer at the pub. Home for a shower. Back to the pub for beer and plenty of vodka, by the end of the night I'd blown 2weeks wages on booze, was "tipsy" at best. Hit bed at 4am.

Up at 7.30 and at work for 8am to serve brekky to the travel-lodge masses.

Nowadays 1pint I can feel a slight effect...... 1 large glass of wine the same.

I'm 24 ffs

Thank you so much! I thought I was alone.

Used to drink half a bottle of snaps/vodka with a mate, so we had a nice "base" when starting to do shots/beer. That way we could feel "tipsy" by the end of the evening.

Now when I drink 5 beers I already feel it.

This thread began by making the point that boasting about the ability to drink copious quantities of alcohol is a bit lame. I like how it's developed, where now each post is one in which the poster boasts about their abilities to drink copious quantities of alcohol.

^^^^^^ TRUE ^^^^

sorry for that. Off topic but a simillar question:

do people find that those who boast of the large amounts they can drink, also have a pressing desire to force those around them to drink too? Even if those in their presence have no desire to drink.
