I have just picked up a 106 as a first car for the gf and although its a half decent car I bought it for a knock down price as the power steering doesn't work. So before I just try and change the power steering pump are there any other things it could be?? Fluid is all topped up and clean, are there any known common faults with these? blown fuses or knackered relays etc????

I had one of these that didn't have power steering fitted at all, it was a hoot, can it still be driven even though the power steering is broken?

If it's a hydraulic system then there will be no fuses etc at all. Start engine and rev it up to about 2000 rpm and then give the pump a whack with a hammer as it may free of the pump vanes. failing that fit another pump.

Car can be driven but only just!! as you turn into a corner it suddenly stiffens up and seems to lock, fun in the wet!! Will pick up a trusty old Haynes manual and have a crack

What year is it? I have a 106 Haynes manual you can have for beer tokens but I THINK it only covers phase 1 (-1995)
