SOTY: Jaguar XJR

And 2011's Shed of the Year goes, appropriately, to a mighty-powerful Jag (rapturous applause)

Dust off your dickie-bow, wipe down your waistcoat and crack open the cummerbund: it's time for the PH Shed of the Year awards.

Those of you who can remember back to a time before the arrival of turkey and presents may recall that we asked you last week to vote for your favourite Shed of the Week 2011.

But instead of giving you the choice of the entire 50-plus weeks of sheds (a list of 50 cars would have been much too messy), we decided to whittle the options down to a shortlist of 10, picked for their amusement value as much as their general Shed awesomeness. Some of your favourites may have been missing (our apologies to those wanting to vote for the Accord Type R or the V6-powered Toyota MR2), but we hope that the spread of Sheds was a fair one.

And now the phone lines have closed, the votes have been counted and verified, and the results are in (new votes will not be counted, but you may still be charged per click*); so may we present to you your favourite SOTW 2011 - the Jaguar XJR.

XJR got 26 per cent of the votes...
XJR got 26 per cent of the votes...
Proving that speed truly does matter to PHers, you've picked out what must be the most powerful SOTW ever, with more than a quarter of the votes going to the humble M-plate Jaguar XJR we featured back in April.

Beating PHer Jon-'s magnificent BMW 635 CSi Shed Special, and even the magnificent E34 M5 that we featured in September, the XJR also proves that shed aficionados appreciate a good ol' punt as much as they do a genuinely sensible purchase. And that's a good thing, because if SOTW was about remotely sensible purchases we would be bringing you a Mk1 Ford Focus every week. And you wouldn't want that.

Roll on the Sheds of 2012...

*We joke - like in all the best democracies, voting on PH is free

Proper order!

No German metal in the SOTY.

Well done, by far the best shed.
(Wish I'd bought it now)

Great choice. I love fast saloon cars like the M5 & S8 in Ronin, the 7 series & Audi from The Transporter films. I think early 4.2 V8 Audi S4's look great value right now at under £5k.

Anyway back to topic - the XJR still looks good for a 17 year old car and if the engine & gearbox still work well then it would be a fantastic car for occasional use.

Having checked the DVLA website I noticed it is not currently taxed. Hopefully this is just because it is being kept off the road over the winter months...

Is there a thread for people who have bought sheds to add updates to?

Well done to the XJR, by far the best shed this year! The fact that you can buy a car like this with 320+ bhp and loaded with toys is amazing.

Excellent work, I missed the voting but would have gone for this without a doubt.

That 635CSi is absolutely gorgeous, and I want one, but not as much as I want the Jaaag.. smokin

Here here.

A fantastic Shed. Sumptuous leather, amazing pace and handsome looks. And British. Better than any German barge, ever...

Happy 2012 all...

I think it's a poor indicator of our general ability in terms of "reading an ad" that we appear to have voted-in the dodgiest Shed of the year by a long margin...

The car itself - should it be straight and working - is a great choice. This particular example smells dodgy-as-hell tho - it has all the alarm bells of a not-loved car which has been run into the ground by at least the last 2 owners and SOTW is not about buying other people's trouble (it's about driving on the back of other people's care!!)

First rule of shedding is that it's an "organised retreat" (someone else crowned that and I love it) - and to do that, you need a starting point which isn't already 2 people's less-than-organised retreats smile

Can I have the tshirt for 3rd place? biggrin

SOTW update, it's currently sitting under my drive under a cover after I failed to get on top of the water ingress over the warmer months (it's not a big issue, just didn't get time to fix it and I wouldn't have run it over the winter anyway as it's not galvanised).

I'm looking forward to next spring when I can get it back on the road and start pimping again. Will try and bring it to a meet!

Please don't think I'm being arsey, but could you show me an advert for such a car as I'd love to try one for a while.

Keep an eye on eBay. None under £5k right now but they do come up... There is a clean s4 in black for £5995 and the seller would consider an offer:

Great value car for the winter!

But it was under £1k!

Obviously a vote of the coolest shed rather than one to actually consider buying! smile

The Puma or Merc estate looked good buys.
