RE: Pic of the Week: Jaguars XJ220 and XKR-S
Friday 3rd February 2012
We apologise if today's POTW seems a little like a shameless ego massage (though there's probably something in that), but the PH editorial team have been lucky enough to indulge in some deeply fun Jaguar-related activities over the past week or so. So please indulge us.
Pic of the Week: Jaguars XJ220 and XKR-S
A pair of dramatic Jags for your delectation
Editor Trent's hooning around in the snow of Finland earlier this week has generated the first image. We reckon he deserves plaudits for a) managing open-top motoring in temperatures of -16C, b) being brave enough to wear a hat that would make Dappy fromN-Dubz proud and c) not chucking the XKR-S into a snow bank at the first opportunity (at least that's what he tells us...).
The other image is more classic POTW fodder, a beautifully yellow, beautifully shot XJ220 S. And the ego trip bit? That's the one yours truly got taken for a ride in on JLR's Gaydon test track...

Discussion
Not a big fan of the TWR XJ220S. I love the fact it is an even more extreme version of one the fastest cars ever made, but the bodykit is a turn off. Same with the XKR-S. The XK is a lovely motor, but it just looks garish in the R-S variant.
I know, looks are subjective, but when I get my six lotto numbers I will want to look at and lick my XJ220 on a daily masis, so I must have the most pretty one available. Spoilers are not pretty.

That 220 was built from the wreck of one of the cars used in the "Past Masters" race series in the US in 1992 or 93. That particular car had been driven (into something) by Dick Trickle. I have the original Nardi steering wheel hanging up in my garage. The car was tested by Clarkson at the time - as JC said "one of the people you don't want to upset is Tom Walkinshaw", so he told everyone it was brilliant - it was terrible, just a mule really, although had anyone expressed an interest in buying it I'm sure it would have been sorted. Looked nice in the flesh, IIRC.
