Currently looking for a 335i, was wondering if anybody has any personal experience of owning one and any reliability issues they may have. I’ve read a bit about the fuel pump issues etc.

Haven’t come across any issues regarding turbo failure and as I’ll be buying one with 70/80k is there anything else I should be aware of?

The common/ known issues are hpfp, injectors, vanos valves etc.

As long as you can check all the history/ warranty work done, and get a bmw warranty you should be safe.

Buy one with less than 60k, buy the monthly BMW warranty at £40ish a month, forget about the (very real) reliability issues.

Warranty can be had for £32/month with £100 excess, engine is fantastic.

Many more 335i on the road than reported issues, people love to moan...

How much were you looking to spend? I am looking to sell my E92 335i...bloody house deposits frown

I was going to part-ex it against my mum's new car, if you'll match BMW's part-ex its yours...just put 4 new tyres on it and all and have the quote to extend the warranty next to me.

If you've been offered 15k for an 07 with no satnav then take it! That seems like more than its worth for sure!

Is a warranty really essential for a 335? How 'real' are the reliability issues? Is a 330 a much safer bet? Can anyone tell me if the performance difference is really that noticable?
Thanks

The 330 might be a safer bet however I would still get a warranty even with the 330.
Regarding performance, around 40bhp more on the 335 is bound to make a difference.
Some people spend a lot of money in tuning to gain that amount of extra bhp.

Fuel pump issue should be mostly sorted now, especially on a car thats done 70/80K. Main issue that seems to be of most concern is problems with the turbo waste gate, start the engine from cold and listen for a mechanical rattling noise, if its there it may indicate the waste gate needs replacing which essentially means new turbos.....

The BMW warranty is expensive to keep up, mainly because you have to take the thing to a BMW dealer....just make sure you have plenty of spare £££ in your pocket because some one has to pay for the fancy show room, 15+ receptionists etc

Had my 335i now for 6 months and absolutely love it, simply the best car I've owned ever, can see my self upgrading to a 335i F30 with a HUD when the time is right smile

I know someone with a 330i - it has been back to the dealer numerous times with engine issues, and puts out <250bhp on the dyno - I wouldn't touch one without a cast iron warranty.

The 330i with the N53 is no more reliable and suffers from similar issues to the 335i, as its also a high pressure direct injection engine.

Surely under the EU anti-competition laws they aren't allowed to do this anymore? As far as I am aware, you are allowed to service your car anywhere you like as long as OE parts are used.

EU rules only apply to the original new car warranty. The exended product is not covered by this - you have to have it serviced at a BMW dealer.

That's pretty crap then. I was thinking of extending the warranty on mine when it expires but sod getting shafted £300 for a basic oil service! I think I'll just stick the money in a contingency fund instead.

Surely it's not £300 for an oil service on a 335i? eek My local dealer was about half that for an oil service on my M3 CS (their charge was just under £100 and I supplied the oil which from memory was around £60 from Opie Oils).

As I've said on another thread, I had an extended warranty on the M3 but with the wisdom of hindsight I wish I'd done what you're suggesting and put the monthly premium into a savings account instead. In the three years I had it running the warranty must have cost double the repairs I had done!

I've only had mine for three months, but I put my '07 Sport Touring with 40k miles through Surrey Rolling Road a couple of weeks ago, it came out with 311.3bhp biggrin
You've got the 335i Touring. I tried to buy one of those about 2 years ago - i think there are only about 4 in the entire universe. I see more Veyrons.

No, its less than that unless its the third oil service which also includes spark plugs.
