Hi guys.

A new SLK 1.8 blueeffiency 2012 is £30k.

I'm only wanting the car for 2 years.

I've found a good car lease deal. £250 a month for 24 months.

I can buy the car out straight for £30,000, but in the long run would it be cheaper for me to get a car lease.

Car lease 24 months = £6000

Because the logic I'm using is, after 24 months the car will have depreciated. Meaning I would of lost money.

so what would be the best option for me? Buying the car outright then selling it after 2 years. Or Get a car lease and pay £6k overall.

Thanks

What about the initial payment on the lease?

But SLK's are rubbish for supermarket shopping? For the frequency of trips to the supermarket you do, surely you need an estate?

If you can stay within the mileage of a £250 month lease, this will be a much cheaper method and your £30,000 can be earning some interest in a bank/ISA.

You'll need to comprehensively insure a lease car, driving it using the driving other cars clause on your 1.2 Clio won't cover it wink

Yeah I've found insurance for £6k which Im prepared to pay. The price is decent for a 19 years old. Fully comp.

Btw the contract is 23+3

But you can adjust the initial payment, so the more months you pay upfront the cheaper it will be overall.

You can lease an SLK 250CDI on a 6 + 23 profile for £199 PM + VAT.

Despite being a diesel convertible, which seems an odd combination still, it seems great value.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but why do people think diesel is bad?

Someone even said to me to get a petrol. They didn't even give me an explanation why.

Thanks for the help guys btw

You're willing to pay 6 grand a year for insurance and are bothered whether leasing is cheaper than ownership?

You have to pay the price to be driving a sports car at 19. It was better than the initial £11k quotes i was getting right from the start of my search!

£6k on insurance for something like an SLK? I mean... really? If you do that, in 5 years time you will look back and cry into your cornflakes at how mind numbingly stupid a move it really was.

It's fine, I can afford it. You don't have to worry about how I'll feel in 5 years time. The question was is it cheaper to lease or purchase outright.

The world has gone mad.

Why on earth would a 19 year old want a 1.8 SLK?

Even my Mum would turn her nose up at one of them, and she's 75.

And six grand for insurance?

I really, really hate to say this, but have you ever considered an old MX5?

It would be ten times more fun for a fraction of the price.

Why wouldn't I?

I like the car; simple.

It's funny how you guys can never answer the question which was initially asked.
