POTW: Jag XJS at Goodwood

Picture Of The Week celebrates Jaguar's most spirited getaway award at Goodwood

The cloud of tyre smoke left by Morgan's Matt Humphreys in the Plus 8 looked like a good bet for the coveted 'most spirited getaway' award from Wednesday's Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival press day. But it seems he was pipped to the celebrated title by Alex Buncombe in the mighty V12 XJS, recorded in fine style in this super crisp photo from Goodwood.

Look carefully and you can actually see the massive side exhausts blasting straw out of the bales beside the track, this being the second time Jaguar has won this title after Anthony Reid set light to a set of rear tyres in the XFR last year.

And if the picture alone isn't enough we can combine POTW with Time For Tea? and share with you a fabulous bit of footage of Tom Walkinshaw manhandling the XJS round Bathurst. As the commentator says, 'here comes the boss!', this actual car - chassis number five of seven - actually raced around Mt Panorama itself.

I remember that Bathurst race, it was a great era with loads of in car footage when that sort of thing was quite rare. Dick Johnson in the (I think) XF Falcon too.

Rarely a month goes by that I don't watch that video. A wonderful car from a great era.

Great pic too. Hope to see and hear this at FoS.

I never get tired of that footage either.

What do we get these days? FWD shopping trolleys in BTCC and diesels at Le Mans......please, give us back some real cars.

I was down at Brand Hatch last month and watched a load of these XJS blast around the track, they do make a very nice noise, and quit rapid for there size, there was also a Ford GT which look very good to.

excellent video - shows serious commitment at 1:10, where he is up on two wheels and really lening on those slicks!

Awesome. As somebody who has actually driven around Bathhurst's Mount Panorama I can really appreciate this. Driving something as big and heavy as an XJS or an Australian V8 super sedan that fast on that circuit requires real balls.

I drove my Mitsubishi around it faster than I should and I nearly sh*t my pants coming down the hill.

Sooner or later the 'elf and safety prats will close circuits like this. It's where really skilled drivers can show what they've got.

No poncy flappy paddles either! :-)

Loving the commitment in the vid, and to be fair on your face Daz!

Sending the POTW to my old man, hopefully it will nudge him to finish rebuilding his non body kitted Lister XJS!

Where I used to work we converted an ex-TWR XJS for road use, not sure which one but The owner thought it would be fun to put it on the road.

Plenty of PHers when looking at posts about Jaguars make a comment on the lines of "Old Man's Motor". They would not think so having seen the video of the great TW round Bathurst!
