My trusty Seamaster - very similar to http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/seamaster/300-m-... has developed a fault with the bezel.

Granted, I don't have any functional use for it other than it making a pleasant clicky noise but...

It's suddenly able to rotate in either direction and feels sticky / gunged up.

Just wondering if anyone has had something similar fixed and if so roughy what it cost?

I've spoken to my local dealer and they used phrases like "incredibly expensive" and "12 weeks"

Good news the ratchet spring can be bought from CousinsUK and the bezel is quite easy to remove with the correct bezel remover.

That's the tool I've been using to remove omega smp bezels it works 90% of the time and wont mark or bend the bezel BUT I've sold the last one I had made.

Good news the replacement Omega bezel spring is about £14.

Thanks ever so much for the info.

I'm just at te jeweller - they reckon it's got to go back to Switzerland - for 4 or 5 months?!?!?

FFS I could make a watch myself in that time.

Just waiting to see what they'd charge..! I don't imagine that it'll be cheap.

Is it a possibility to use a bevel removal tool and chuck in the £14 part I wonder..?

Give Stephen a call at Ryte Time Watch Repairs. He did a load of work on my Seamaster including messing about with the bezel. He's got a good reputation on here, is good value and you won't be be waiting months to get it back. smile

Edit: The number is 0116 267 7673 if you want to call whilst you're still near the jewelers. The website is http://www.rytetimewatchrepairs.co.uk

Cheers. I'll give them a shout.

The jeweller reckon it'll be about £25 for Omega To have a look.

Then £200 if it doesn't need a bezel & £400 if it does.

All approx figures subject to a random number generator type increase.

All this because I miss that clicky clicky noise.

Got my Planet ocean bezel replaced, serviced and fully restored for £470 inc VAT from Russell Tallerman. Got it back within the week too.

Great service.

Steve should be able to replace the fatigued ratchet ring no problem he will most likely remove the bezel insert and remove the bezel retaining wire, OR use a bezel remover the AF rubber bezel remover sold at Cousins might be upto the job, the thin blade knife trick wont work on Omega SMP/POs.

I had my smp sent to omega for a full service, took less than 4 weeks and cost £250, massive list of parts replaced.

Ta for the replies.

Stephen at the watch repair place sounded very knowledgable on the phone. Reckoned it'd be about £35 and a couple of weeks.

I'd rather that than £400 + and 12 weeks?!

I am sort of wondering if I should combine it with a service at Omega.

£250 and 4 weeks doesn't sound the end if the world given I'm planning to wear the watch until I die.

If only my personality would let me ignore the fault.

Chaps,

That's the part that needs repair or replacing due to the part being stainless steel and a stamping the ratchet pawls work harden and fracture quite easily, with Tag Heuer 1500, 2000 models you can reuse the broken ratchet spring but best replacing an Omega as less trouble.

With a Tag Heuer 1500 or 2000 it's easy to drill a second locating hole and cut and reform new ratchet pawls from the old ratchet stamping/spring etc.
