I sure like me, many are taking walkie talkie radios for the trip down and on site , Hows about a "smokie" watch . Spot radar traps , fuzz hiding in sliproads ,at tolls etc , and put it out on a dedicated channel on the radios ( channel nos are the same on all radios , its just the subs that may differ )

Channel 1 perhaps , or did not CB radio users use C9 ? perhaps that ?

Found a load of people on ch1 last year on the way back. We weren't really speeding, but it was amusing chatting to randoms hehe

Or just get the app avertinoo for your iPhone and let it be about a million times more effective. It caught every single mobile trap and fixed camera last year in real time, I just wished more people embraced it in the UK.

Will that not be covered by the french laws against camera detectors etc though?

Wouldn't be impressed with a 1500 euro fine personally.

I can't imagine that if you were stopped the Gendarmes would insist on scrolling through all of the apps on your smart phone? smile

Exactly and they are now danger zones not mobile laser/camera and apparently that's ok. Just don't have it on the screen if you get tugged, worst case it takes 5 secs to delete the app.

If you get a cheap set of license free 0.5W walkie talkies in the UK they may come with sub channels in addition to the 8 main channels.
Be aware that these are not real channels, anyone on channel 1 can hear all the sub channels, but someone on channel 1.1 - 1.8 won't be able to hear main channel 1.
In other words don't think you've found a quiet channel and start a private conversation wink by using sub channels you may also be transmitting at the same time as someone else on another sub channel, which will result in interference.

It may be available in English, but will the gendarmes get medieval on your ass for using it?

Actually, I have had the misfortune to have two brushes with 'les flics' on Le Mans trips in the past, and on neither occasion did they demand to know if I had a smartphone, never mind check it. I don't believe they have the right to inspect your satnav for camera location software, nor the right to check your phone.

I would have thought that the very fact you had been stopped by them indicates that if you were using such an app, it hadn't really worked had it??

Of course the other point is that the avertinoo app is legal in France, at least it claims to be on the app T&Cs and on their website readit
