Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for a LONG dog lead ie 30/40/50ft for when i take the dog out on the fields. Unfortunately she is a Beagle, so has the natural tendency to, leg-it hehe

My idea was to use a standard dog lead for when on pavements etc, but then switch to a another lead/rope of upto 50ft when on the field.

I use a Lunge line with dogs that won't recall...might not be long enough for you though.

Phooey,

All working breeds want to chase prey. They can be trained not to do this. Start by not encouraging or allowing them to chase or run after anything. As for a long line I use a couple of the long training lines from pets at home clipped together.

Cheers for the replies. Good idea re the 'lunge' line - approx 8m seemed to be the max on these. I ended up ordering a 10m and 15m tracking lead from here - http://www.traininglines.co.uk/tracking-lead-20mm-...

When teaching mine recall i used a big lead think it was 10M. Then when they could do that i got some rope and had it about 25m long. I was ok as i was on short grass field. Niether of these are very good for walking with they just get caught up in bushes, plants etc can be a bit of a mere. Just depends where your going to walk i suppose.

Sometimes retractable leads have a use.
