Prompted by this getting christened 'Jenson', wondered what the PH collective has to say on the topic of naming your pride and joy 'appropriately'.

I've never named a car until my Eunos.

She's called Venus, because the front is always covered in dead flies. hehe

The only car I named was my cousins Vauxhall Viva. It was electric blue with alley cat wheels. It was known as "Saturday Night Viva" although the local mechanic christened it his kids college fund ;-)

My wife is of the opinion that male names for cars are bad luck. I am of the opinion it is a stupid idea. She called the Monaro Sheila. Say no more.

I had an Astra called Lavista
Then a Sierra called Leone

Have always gone for the alliteration since then

Currently running Paul the pug - the diesel is a lower voice hence the boy's name. Previous 306 was called Polly!

If it helps the kids engage and attach to cars as more than just transport then it's done it's job

I also talk to my cars and apologise if I have abused them in some way in some ridiculous attempt to make sure they don't get me back biggrin

Bruce, the Monaro couldn't be any name other than Sheila.

my monaro is called "The monk". i dont rememeber where this name comes from, or when it was first given it. it was before i was aware of monkfish performance(the monaro tuning lot) too. monks are male, so i guess its a boy.

Some hybrid of the final two options possibly?

Is that because like raising sheep/chickens/cows you shouldn't name them because at some point you're going to eat it?

My first car was a VW Polo, she was called Pringle.

To this day I have no idea why, it just stuck all my mates knew her as pringle too!

I called the Triumph "Sienna", being that it is Sienna Brown, and during any fast driving/overtakes I tend to encourage it by shouting "come on sienna!"

Lol, i drove an A3 for a while, called it Heinz

For me it all depends on the car, the chipped A3 TDI had nothing feminine about it, so clearly that was Heinz, my Alfa Mito was much more shapely, called her Nera (not strictly a girls name, but my own version of female black in italian)

Havent named my Focus yet though, given its role as family mule i'm inclined to go with Donkey
