In conjuction with the console to PC Commander transfer and the inability for console players to tranfer their "Arx" game currency between platforms there is a reasoble sale on of in-game cosmetics on from now until the 20th.
Biggest discounts are 45% off some ship kits (unfortunately not the funky new Hazard packs) and weapon cosmetics.
I've never been that fussed about cosmetics but just from the free weekly Arx I've accumulated 14k or so. Shame I've been spending 90% of my time recently in the Imperial Courier which has a fairly dull ship kit imho.
Oh and I just saw Covas ship voices are also 45% off. I've been tempted by the voice of Leo (Norman Lovett aka Holly) off and on. Although long term the appeal may wane.

You're welcome, I hate the dread feeling of carry around stacks of first discovery data.
Exactly. Made it thanks! 100 jumps later and I'm repaired and downloaded - 150,000,000 new credits in the bank from the data.Need to decide whether to continue 'home' or keep on going now.

Well the anomaly thing is quite interesting at the moment although it probably won't resolve into any new gameplay before Update 14 in the middle of November (AX ground combat maybe finally?)
I want to go and find an interesting world I discovered in Distant Worlds 2 again and see what it's like in Odyssey but the 80kLY round trip is a bit daunting and I've no fleet carrier to automate it.
Have often thought about getting one of the auto jumping scripts running, but it's certainly against the game ToS.

I notice it's yellow and blue now, is it chasing the Russians?

Yesterday's update has introduced "4.0" Horizons so the codebase is now legacy 3.8 and new 4.0 in either Horizons or Odyssey mode.
Players can launch into either but only 4.0 gets the story post Proteus Wave maguffin. No-one can cross instance, which is daft.
There are now three Thargoid anomalies headed for the bubble. ETA mid November.
I'm having fun with engineered dual autoloader rocket launchers on the ground. Very doom feeling jumping about spamming rockets everywhere.

I'm trying to work out whether I need Odyssey.
Downloading Horizons 4.0 currently, although at a whopping 0.50 MB/s for some reason, so it's taking a while.
I've no real interest in first person shooters, so without Odyssey, will I miss much more than that?
Well.... Odyssey is not a great FPS. But it ican be a fun First Person Sneak'em up, it's not at the Thief level (original and Metal Age) but you can take plenty of time to accompish a mission without going full Rambo and it's satisfying to do so, and punishing when you get it wrong.Downloading Horizons 4.0 currently, although at a whopping 0.50 MB/s for some reason, so it's taking a while.

Station concourse, bars and carrier interiors are quite cool, just standing around and listening to NPC chatter about Thargoids or powerplay stuff is impressive.
Atmospheric planets can give some seriously impressive sights again as you fly around.
Not sure how much non-combat content will be in the November update, everyone is anticipating something substantial, hopefully Thargoid ground combat but maybe nothing beyond that.
I bought it at 40% off myself a good few months ago and I'm happy to be in, particularly as the squadron I'm in has almost fully moved to Odyssey.

Odyssey is the latest "version" of the game so it will be 100% supported in terms of updates and any future update (the longed for ship interiors) will no doubt be built on Odyssey, it's not just first person shooting, it adds to the immersion.Downloading Horizons 4.0 currently, although at a whopping 0.50 MB/s for some reason, so it's taking a while.

Thanks both. Very helpful info again.
My download has finished and the splash screen now shows Odyssey, although I know it’s not per se.
I’m heading back home, approx 200 jumps to go now. The first thing I’ve noticed is the uplift in the quality of graphics. The landscapes on the planets look amazing. I spent some time in the scarab, and noticed the tyre tracks were abundant when I took off to continue home.
Once I’m back I may well update to the full version. Especially as it’s currently got 45% off too.

Back at full price now, too late.
Ah well, saved me some cash then. I'll wait until next time. Toltec said:

Surprisingly legit, I've used them since 2015 with no issues. Can always pay via PayPal for extra fallback.
:thumbup thanks, seemed like one of those too cheap to be true things. Thought it might be a case of it working with a CD or dodgy download, but not on Frontier/Steam. Update 14 scheduled for next Tuesday 29th and FDev are promising something BIG.
Eight Stargoids / Thargoid Titans are now inbound on human worlds.
As of Tuesday play options will be revised again to be Legacy and Live which will be completely separate for each other. Implies that something cataclysmic will happen on Tuesday.
As "nice" as it is to give players options the matrix of launch variables is now a bit ridiculous. Live/Legacy, Odyssey/Horizons Open/Group/Solo.
