More and more I feel that these chaps should not be named until they at least have been formally charged and are appearing in court.

The article says charged. What do you mean by formally charged?

Should names be released prior to Court appearance and a guilty verdict announced?

Very strange! Dont see why a guy with fame like this goes for young girls? pretty sure he could have the pic of his 16+ year old fans. two women aged 20 and 24 as well.... very strange indeed?

What I mean is appears in court - at least. Even then, I am getting increasingly concerned that far too many innocent men are going to have massive problems over the next year or so with false claims against them. But, as their names have been blasted all over the media - their reputations and careers could well be ruined.

Lewis: That's what I thought. I think even the oldest looking 13 year old would still look young enough for you to be seriously questioning her age.

Eric: Quite right. I don't think any details should be released prior to at least the trial, never mind just being arrested.

Another sorry tale.

The Police have released his name to help appeal for any victims to come forward. Oddly they've done their usual 'a 35 year old Male from Pontypridd' press release, and then given his name and that of the band on their twitter account. ( @swpolice )

When I first heard I assumed he'd been accused of sleeping with some underage fan backstage, and perhaps it was a case that he didn't known their true age.

Sadly the charge is darker than that, he's been charged with conspiring with two women in their 20's to have sex with a girl "under 13" and downloading and distributing indecent images.

I think 'charged' is the right time to release the details, especially if the person is high profile and it might lead to more people coming forward, there will always be some scum who'll stick their hand up without merit to try to get their face in the paper, but the Police can weed them out.

And what if the charges turn out to be unfounded?

(I'm not talking about this specific case - but the principle in general?)

I'm with Eric. Once this starts gathering momentum far too many money-hungry young women will start sniffing blackmail opportunities.

Sort of agree. Celebrity or not, an unsubstantiable charge could still ruin an innocent life. I do believe in the right to fair trial and that people should be proven guilty.

From the sound of the chagres in this specific case, it does appear to be very serious and not, in all likelihood, afalse charge, but miscarriages of justice can and do happen.

Lol.. I get that. Just cant see how somebodies mind could ever work like that especially, like i said, he could easily have a fair few legal 16 year olds if he wanted im sure. Ah well, i dont think wel ever know what goes on in their heads.

Rare that you'd get a women doing it though id have thought, especially 2? Could be more ro the story!

I agree it's a delicate matter; the police have to balance the rights of the accused as innocent until proven guilty, and of course perusing the case by giving the opportunity for any victims to come forward.

Accusations of this sort of thing will ALWAYS stick to someone unless the evidence against them is so ludicrous that even the worst "where there's smoke crowd" dismiss them.

I don't think it anything should be made public because someone is questioned by the Police, nor at the 'arrest' stage, but to be changed, the Police must feel as if there is sufficient evidence to obtain a conviction.

Of course lots of people who are charged will have the charges dropped before court, have cases thrown out of court, or ultimately found innocent and especially in very emotive cases like this will have their character forever tarnished, even if they did nothing wrong.

There is no perfect answer for anything.

Take for example the on-going Jimmy Seville investigation, of course he managed to live a full life before he could be brought to trial, but it's said that his victims kept quiet for decades because they thought his position would mean they would be ignored. What would have happened if one of his victims had spoken up and he was charged and brought to court, only for insufficient evidence to lead to an innocent verdict, if the media had been gagged until a guilty verdict his other victims may have never known he had be charged and may have stayed quiet forever.

Of course.

I was just trying to explain to lewis why he fancied young girls rather than 16+
