Powerfully-built directors drive fastest

It's official. Well, according to some people who've done a survey, anyway...

Much mention has been made on the PH forums of the lesser-spotted powerfully-built director. It’s a breed that surfaces occasionally on the boards, stalking lightly through General Gassing and waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce on a thread which allows it to give the maximum possible exposure to its fleet of high-performance cars And, if the results of a survey out today are anything to go by, these unusual creatures also happen to be the fastest drivers in the country.

To be precise, the survey, carried out by MoneySupermarket, suggests that those with the job title of ‘Operations Director’ drive the fastest of any profession around. So, it would seem, not only do these beasts have a garage full of muscular machinery, but they also drive them in a pretty thrusting manner too. Not sure about the rest of you, but that doesn’t come as a great surprise to us. Also unsurprising are second and third places on the list, which go to surgeons and sales directors, while fourth place goes to a different kind of director – that of the more common-or-garden ‘managing’ variety.

At the other end of the list, things are less obvious: if you work in a cafe or a building society, or you’re a full-time student, it turns out you’re apparently the least likely to be a speed demon; also surprising is that younger drivers are less likely to be convicted of speeding than those aged 40-49, who apparently represent the greatest risk rate.

So, if you count yourself as one of the PH powerfully-built massive, watch out – they’re onto you...

I must have missed something, but what is this irritating "powerfully-built director" phrase in reference to?

Something I've often wondered, then: what do these powerful director types do when they meet another one of their kind whilst driving?

So they're in their Audi Allthesame, doing 90mph a couple of inches off some grandad's bumper, horn and main beam on, when their identical twin races up behind them at 120mph, even closer, in even more of a hurry. Do they think, 'what an Audi driving fcensoredkpot', or what?

It seems to be a joke around here refering to those that make themselves out to be more than what they are.

We seem to have so many people on here that own their own companys and are over 6ft body builders with shaved heads and goatees.

Whgen in reality they are probably like this

Incorrect. The government have stats showing speed causes accidents and also kills kittens and children.

Insurance companies have lots and lots of stats showing young people are much more likely to crash.

Therefore young people speed many times as much as 40-49 year olds yes

biggrin

But on a serious note, perhaps they drive fast because they're good at driving and generally good at most things, hence their being powerfully-built directors?
For the record I am neither powerfully built nor a director.
Quite often these people who charge around in BMWs are perfectly well mannered, they'll move over for a fast moving dirty old Escort (snigger). Not Audi drivers though, all w***ers tongue out

If my experiences are anything to go by, young drivers do indeed tear around like lunatics (well, everyone I knew did) but within a relatively confined local area in which they know all the speed cameras, popular police spots, and so on.

Most people I know who've been caught speeding were older, in an unfamiliar area so not knowing where the cameras/cops were, and more often speeding though complacency (particularly instinctually thinking a wide urban road is 40 rather than 30) as opposed to really going for it.

Also interesting that it's people likely to have access to larger, more comfortable and powerful cars that get caught speeding. Especially on a motorway where visual cues as to what speed you're doing are removed or lessened as much as possible, 70mph can feel positively glacial.

I understand the powerfully-built director reference, but what I wanna know is what's a 'whoosh parrot' ? confused

Seems to be used all over the forums.

It's used when someone says something and it "goes over your head" i.e they don't get it.

Someone then posts the stupid picture lol

One picture I don't get is the one with the hand drawn sillyface

That's almost me biggrin

I don't drive an Audi and I'm not powerfully built. But I'm a Jag XFR driving Operations Director. Does that count?

I've thought through this idea myself and I reckon the person in front will just put their foot down, creating a domino effect as Audi after Audio form a single file stream in the fast lane, bullying anyone they can out of the way. Oh wait, isn't that the M1/M25/M6/M4/every bloody motorway up and down the land...
