Given how unreliable TVR power steering racks are alleged to be I would like to fit a filter into the low pressure return hose. The only two self-contained units that I can find are Cardone and MagneFine. However I can only find these from US stockists...anyone know of UK suppliers?
Also, what is the I.D. of the return hose?

Thanks.

I wonder whether you could convert/use a petrol filter instead?

I think ATF fluid might be too thick, also I don't know what the pressure in the return hose is. In any event it needs a 1/2" bore. I understand that what I need is also used in auto transmissions (same fluid).

Just guessing but a hydraulic oil filter might do it assuming such a thing exists?

Please keep us posted with the outcome, i would be interested in doing this myself, if you manage to scource a suitable filter.

I understand the reasoning in putting the filter inline on the return, as this is the best place to actually filter anything, but are you putting any extra pressure on the system by locating it there.

Would it not be better being on the feed side to the pump, as this is gravity fed.?

Just a thought, quite prepared to be told otherwise.

if you place a filter on the return, that will create a restriction, which might cause returning fluid to create pressure on the wrong side of the rack.....id put the filter on the pumped flow. i dont know how high a pressure is created by the pump, but i think is is quite high

You could try this company, they have both suction and pressure side filters for hydraulic installations.

I have fitted an extra inline oil filter to my BSA bike to filter the engine oil as it only relies only on a crude stainer system.

The one I used was recommend to be fitted to the return side, the kit consists of a mounted filter head and a disposable spin on oil filter, it can be located remotely so the filter can be hidden from view to keep things tidy.

From memory the filter inlet and oulet hose size was 3/8" and the hoses were a push fit with jubilee style clips to secure, sorry I do not know what size the return pipe on the Griff as mine is without PAS.

Search on the bay for a BSA or Norton universal filter kit
