Time For Tea: RXC on track

Radical RXC escapes the showstand and finally hits the track...

There can be little to make a petrolhead want a particular car more than a video of said car being driven hard, set to rousing music. Clearly, that’s something Radical’s aware of, if this latest release on its YouTube channel is anything to go by.

Ooh, atmospheric.
Ooh, atmospheric.
It shows Radical’s next big thing, the RXC, alternately being fettled in a pit garage and being put through its paces. There are a few words from Phil Abbott, Radical’s technical director, before Phil then exits stage left to pilot the new car, leaving us with nothing but the RXC’s fantastic soundtrack, provided by the Mustang-sourced 3.7-litre V6, and a rather filmic backing track.

Having last seen the RXC on a static display at Autosport, it’s pleasing to see it moving under its own steam, and it’s also good to note that development in full swing. With a kerb weight just over 900kg and 385hp, it promises to be just as shockingly quick as Radical’s previous efforts. Sounds like fun. When can we have a go?

900kg, is that kerb weight,? Or down force.

Im hoping that its the later as 900k is bloody fat.

Although that chubby weight is the min weight for LMP1 and 2 now!

Looks very impressive from the video, Britain really is world class, in fact leaders when it comes to this kind of sports/track car.

Like it , sounds expensive untill you compare it to a v8 atom then it starts to look like a bargain ?

Or just maybe it has an adjustable ride height...
Radical is doing both race and road cars - I read that in the 'bulls**t marketing'

I thought all cool British car companies had to be owned by Germans, Arabs, or Asians. Has there been some mistake?

Sorry but -

Ugly beaten stick with - please rearange !

She may go well but she is not a looker, too tall, cockpit to narrow, back end a mess, and that's a face only a mother could love ! Don't think the colour helps either.

I'll stick with a LS7 Ultima, not as nimble or probably as quick but better l;ooking and you gotta love the cubes.

As for lightweight track day cars - Atom at the top followed by BAC Mono, I'd even prefer a KTM over this.

It would be interesting to know how much lighter this car could be. I'll wager Radical could quite easily make it leaner. Further down the track a better/bespoke engine could give it huge stature.

Like the idea and it looks spectacular from some angles, but tht first pic, front shot, reminds me of a council grit bin.

White or red would look far nicer IMO

If it's still £90K + VAT, no it's not!! At that money and looking at how it's 99% track focussed and 1% road legal, it doesn't really have many direct rivals I can think of. The Caterham SP is closer in price & orientation, but isn't road legal. Maybe they're aiming after the sold out Atom V8 market?

The Ultima is a road car that can be taken on track, not the other way around... oh and it costs half as much.

How do you know this? Have you seen the road legal version? Have you driven it?
Never assume

Erhm... the RXC IS the road legal version of this car, surely?

As for the adjustable ride height: my Camaro has adjustable suspension as well, but to change the ride height, isn't just a "one push on a button" solution... With only 900kg I can't see how Radical would fit a fully operational air/hydraulic adjustable suspension...

Based on the video... and what's been said previously by Radical. It's clearly track focussed, with the minimum of what it needs to be road legal. Even the noise from the cockpit shots was enough to show that... you'd need earplugs on the road to drive that.

Don't get me wrong, it's what Radical DO and they do it well, but their primary focus isn't driving down Her Maj's highways, therefore, from a competition point of view, road cars like those mentioned are not really comparable. Especially when this is over twice the price.

Cannot wait to see vidoes of the new car being driven in anger, I drove the 1340cc radical at silverstone last year and was blown away by the experience, the cornering speed and braking was crazy, I admit the straight line speed was not all that as a bit asthmatic but a truely great track car.

Good luck to Radical
