Quick question - what level of prep work can I expect from both these specialist and likewise what are their warranties like?

JZM serviced my 996 C2 for most of its life and I looked at several cars and nearly did a P/Ex with Portiacraft.

In my view honest dealers who, by most reports on here, seem to stand by cars they supply.

I think with any deal you must fully confirm what support you are paying for at the time of sale.

I've only been looking for 3 weekends - give me a chance!!!

The two indy's mentioned seem to get a regular supply of 996s and seem quite competitive with their pricing - hence my interest. Not sure if I'd be brave enough to buy a 100k+ miles turbo.

I'm going to an OPC next weekend - I might just buy a 997 turbo instead...

Bought my 930 from Harry at Portiacraft and he's totally stood by it - he's been great - no lattes and leather sofas, just good honest car sellers.
My only quibble is that I still haven't had the paperwork from my engine rebuild on the subsequent top-end rebuild they did and that was 2 years ago!!!!

I think my daughter mentioned someone had emailed me (i hardly look) saying about a black one with cinnamon leather or something...but i've not spoken to any private individual about their car or viewing

Having just sold my C4S through JZM, I can talk in detail about their process.

All cars are thoroughly inspected before being put up for sale. They make a list of any works the car might require. Anybody interested in the car gets to see the list - it's a totally transparent process. In my case the work was carried out before sale as the asking was paid. I think if you negotiate the price down it potentially becomes a horse trade over completing the suggested work vs a price reduction.

I'd definitely use them again, both to sell a car or buy.

I've been to Portiacraft a few times when looking for 911s. The cars seem ok but I'd say that the bodywork / interior preparation is minimal. In particular the interiors were dissapointing on all the 997s I saw from them when compared to, say, an OPC. This is reflected in the price though, so you can take it to a detailer which will do a better job anyways than OPC and be quids in.

Mechanically they stand by their cars, but the ones I saw had little paper trail to identify previous work, although I noticed this throughout the board (911V, Northway, Portiacraft, Dove House motots, OPCs, ...).

I bought my 993 frim portiacraft in 2008. From what i saw they seemed like honest used cars although there isnt the level of detailing that other garages might do.
Regarding history, they had a few 993s at the time and told me that i should go for the one that i ended up buying as it had the best history. Apart from a service stamp for every year regardless of mileage there were also opc invoices for some of the servicing and a previous peter morgan report for a previous owner.

Im getting told by opcs and other independants that it is a good car and been td by them it is becoming difficult to get one in that condition

Bought my 996 Turbo from JZM end of 2012, have to say they are very honest, open and transparent in all their dealings. Would definitely recommend them. Very well prepared cars, and only stock top quality cars, which have any issues sorted before purchase.

Bought my 996 from Portiacraft last year after a less than satisfactory enquiry to another specialist I'd bought from before. Martin at Portiacraft was great and even sent someone over the road to get me a coffee whilst we negotiated. Also very happy with their after sales service and enthusiastic and knowledgable mechanics. From what I gather, their excellent warranty has been copied by more than one other specialist.

The other guys lost out because when I asked about the difference between my current at the time Audi DSG and the Tiptronic in the Porschie and wanted to test a tip and man back-to-back, they said that I was welcome to come to them after I tried them out elsewhere. Needless to say I didn't bother with them after that.

Ok, an element of bravery is probably required but given suitable research, a 100k 996 Turbo is not actually a frightening prospect. My neighbour recently had his eye on a £10k 996 Carrera with the same mileage and IMHO, that is a higher risk car.

Yes, there are a few things to watch for. "Search" is your friend but if you get it right (FSH and expert inspection essential) and find a good specialist you have pretty much depreciation free motoring.

Sold my 996 turbo to them, so I saw how thorough they were and this gave me some reassurance in buying my current GT3 from them.

About 3 months into ownership, I had a power loom fail on new Years Day, which was a bit of a PITA because, with the best will in the world, the recovery service couldn't recover the car anywhere but, long story short, JZM took the car back and did the work, no fuss under their warranty. Was a very, very odd failure and no amount of prep/inspection could possibly have predicted it.

I also had a (non warranty) brake sensor error which my OPC could not fix and Steve was good at advising me, on the 'phone, in the right direction. In this case, I was helped by Mike at Sports and Classic, but JZM's experience and advice (which backed up Mike's opinion) was very useful. Both know their stuff.
