405 T16 at Mont Ventoux: Time for Tea?

Biking's good, F-type's better, T16 easily the best

Maybe we should contact Chris Froome for a Dream Drive shortly; the combination of his F-Type V6 S prize and the breathtaking (in every sense!) Mont Ventoux sounds like a beautiful combination.

Pikes Peak winners + Mont Ventoux = great vid
Pikes Peak winners + Mont Ventoux = great vid
But this may be even better still. The location remains Mont Ventoux but, instead of an F-Type or wheezing peleton, the vehicle ascending it is a Peugeot 405 T16. It's not exactly Climb Dance Mk II, especially as there are no onboard shots of Ari Vatenen powersliding with one hand, but it makes for some damn cool footage nonetheless. Especially with the flames.

And as if a video of Peugeot's 80s Pikes Peak hero hammering up a French mountainside wasn't enthralling enough, the 208 T16 joins its forebear half way through. The ensuing duel is a feast of spoilers, slats, pops and bangs, set against some gorgeous scenery.

There's a final piece of intrigue with this vid too; what is the camera car? Given how rapidly this Audi Avant is travelling, some kind of RS model would be the logical conclusion. But, even by Quattro's restrained standards, this is very subtle. Any ideas?

That Audi is a mistery... It doesn't sound standard whatever it is! Looks like an old Audi 100 Avant, circa 1991 or thereabouts... There were some hot models available on the continent at the time with V8s...

It looks too big to be an RS2..

I would say RS2.

It's not that quick considering that the 405 is slowing right down so as to not hit the darn thing before opening the throttle!

C4 S6 Avant?

Obviously debadged and matt-wrapped as all camera cars should be.

At 3:56 you get a good look at the back and the exhaust looks right imo.

It's not an RS2, look at the wing mirrors. Looks like a standard audi A6 C3 estate to me, very dull. And unless that footage was slowed down it doesn't look terribly fast either. Anyone know what piece of press they're filming it for?

So is the C4 Avant used a 20V Turbo or a V8 one? Or it's like the C3 based Audi V8 offering little over the C3 20V Turbo Audi 200 Turbo Quattro?

Edited as I inadvertently created a 100 C3 S4/S6. redface

no need for the tracking car to be an RS, the shots were done at slow speed and the T16 never even gets onto boost! The one time it hangs back, then nails it, it closes the gap to the tracking car in about 3 sec.......

Also, the 208 is just idling along trying not to run into the back of the 405 as well ;-)

To me, its a C5 RS6 - the flaired arches / upright grill and no fog lights below the headlights etc.
It may not have been around then, but could have been a mule?
T16 is almost the same size as the 208 - isnt it mental how cars have got bigger and bigger

Anyone who thinks it's an RS2, especially after comparing photos of the two, should hand in their card on the way out!

C4 A6 or maybe a late Audi 100.

Nice video though smile
