C'Etait Un Rendezvous

Special PH discount for latest Blu-ray release of this legendary film

If you are reading this, chances are you know all about this film, and even if you haven’t seen it you’ve probably heard the folklore. Did it actually happen, what car was it, was the driver anyone we know and was there any post-edits to make it look faster than it was? It was even banned in 1976, and you can't get cooler than that.

We don’t care much about all that and when you watch it we recommend you forget the rumours and immerse yourself in what has been lauded as the best car film ever made. Ronin is good, Bullitt is great but this is right up there with the best.

Spirit Level Film are offering the legendary film on limited edition Blu-ray (normal DVD format is also available) and they have kindly offered PHers the opportunity to buy a copy with a special PistonHeads discount of £5.00 off the rrp. To claim all you need to do is type PISTONHEADS into the code box at the checkout.

Browse the DVD order page here, and take a look at the Blu-Ray version here.

If you haven't heard of the film you can get a brief taster here

Offer ends midnight on Sunday August 11.

fking aye-phone.

while I'm moaning, any chance ph could make a more friendly aye-phone browser as its a nightmare to post and edit of it. it usually fails with a lengthy post as well.

Given that the engine noise is fake anyway, you might as well watch the music video version.

Except it wasn't real (sped up with a fake soundtrack) and nothing was being chased. Fail.

I thought it was filmed with director Claude LeLouche's Merc 450 SEL 6.9 with the high revving engine dubbed over the top?

The driver certainly has balls and it's quite risky - he nearly clobbers a white mini at one junction and watch those bin wagons!

The above is all correct and if you watch it, the car isnt really travelling that fast, its the low down camera and overlayed 205GTO engine noise that gives the impression of speed.

Its still stylish and enjoyable though!

It was shot on film which is capable of some pretty high resolution. The HD description comes from it being transferred to a HD medium rolleyes

I don't know about that. This analysis has him doing >130 towards the end of the Champs Elysees

Because the source material is 35mm film, the original negative will contain c. 4k resolution, so it's possible to produce a Bu-ray 1080p/2k remaster nerd

For example, checkout the Blu-ray remaster of Taxi Driver (1976) - it looks 'ossum' eek

And it's why the Blu-ray of Senna is a waste of money, it's because the source material is 80s/90s spec standard-def video - you can't polish a turd wink

Good to see some sense from the above posters. Its far from the best car film made, clearly has fake sound dubbed over it. A couple of minutes on youtube will provide better then this.

It's almost exactly the same as "Getaway In Stockholm" (except they're not getting away from anything and it isn't in Stockholm)

What a load of rubbish.

Fake 10 minute car journey for just £15 on DVD? I'd rather sniff my own arse.

Atleast it's real although I do love rendezvous from an artistic perspective.

Just can't not love GIS 1 with that Porsche flat six cloud9

The dubbed V12's sync is shocking. IIRC, he turns-in to Arc de Triomphe in 5th, at what sounds like c. 5000rpm, umm... laugh
