Nurburgring sold: official

Shock as HIG Europe loses out and Nurburgring is sold to Capricorn Group

The Nurburgring has been sold to German automotive firm Capricorn Group for a figure totalling over 100m euros, with a further 25m euros of investment in the current infrastructure promised. The German bid beat the HIG Europe Group's efforts with only minutes to spare.

Capricorn will launch a new company called Capricorn Nurburgring to handle the new business from January 1 2015. Their plans include relocating the roller coaster to another town in the region, scrapping the maligned ring card payment system, and remodelling the current Eifeldorf as a Silverstone-style technology park.

Capricorn Nurburgring will be headed by Adam Osieka, a current VLN racer and CEO of new racing/tuning outfit Getspeed, based in the current industry park.

"It was a very close thing," admitted boss-to-be Adam Osieka. "I haven't slept for two nights, and nothing was decided until the last moment."

HIG, an investment group based in Miami, had been widely tipped to win the bidding process. Indeed only last week they registered six companies to handle their impending victory. Englishman, racer and CEO of those companies Meyrick Cox said: "Of course we are disappointed. We have great experience in this sector with strong links to the F1 and music businesses. We hope that the winning bid can do as much good for the Nurburgring as we had planned."

The first part of the wait is over; the sale is official.

Now the second part of the wait begins; the buyers' plan.

Another lesson in German business. They do not ever deal with or sell their own business to non German businesses, unless there is no alternative.

Shame Aston Martin did not learn that.

Hopefully there is some light at the end of this indeed and considering it's going to be run by an VLN racer should "I hope" see things through slightly different lenses whilst also taking note of the business end of things. However, I'm not sure what they mean by this.. ......maligned ring card payment system . confused

I like the graffiti, it gives the place an extra sense of character! I hope the new owners keep the lap prices similar!

Initial plans sound great, the Ringcard system is a steaming heap of ste for locals and tourists alike. Getting rid of the coaster has got to be the best plan all round, and hopefully by the sounds of it the new owners will be concentrating on what makes the Ring unique and less on the commercial side of things. A bigger car park and better entry/exit system for the Touristfahrten days would be first on my agenda, on a busy day it's horrendous I was quite pleased to be there on a motorbike. I bet there's quite a few squashed toes as a result of the congestion there!

Well at least something has happened at long last, and I'm kind of glad it went to a German company, the British buyers sound like they wanted to Disney the place up, and that was the problem to begin with. I say flatten the roller coaster and complex, and make it into one big car park and maybe some pit garages which could be hired out if people need them. The list could go on, and on. If you cater for the Car Fans out there, and let face it, that is why they are all there, for the love of racing, and cars, and bikes, you could make an absolute killing if done right.

True, a case of local business for local people.

Here's a local, earlier, on a hot lap...

What's your objection to the grafitti- is it that people are walking on the track, or is it literally the act of vandalism?

And it would not be there if it wasn't for him.

Ring card is a bit annoying tbh. The graffiti on the track needs to stay. It's part of what makes the ring the ring.

Hitler was born in Austria.
Google Capricorn group, run by true enthusiasts, not just any "investment group".

With any luck, it will be relocated to a local scrapyard - along with the Ring card fiasco.
