Hi everyone

Sorry if this has been covered already Ive been trying to find something out all day without any luck. My question is my 996 has a cup holder and I have been told the fascia being sold on ebay wont work because of this cup holder, I really want to change the factory sat nav to a pioneer unit does anyone know of a solution ?

i m in the same place as you looking at pioneer dab sat nav unit getting quotes of 1100 quid for a proper install , didnt realize it might kill the cup holders which are usefull for me damned if i am gonna lay out and lose them ,there are options to fit a dab unit with bluetooth to run sat nav through your phone to the pcm

Hi,

I am sure you will find photos of double din installs where the cup holders were retained. I know they were when I had a kenwood unit put into my old 996 c4s. I have pics of the install and will put them up if I can find them. As I recall the double din surround was the one that came with the kenwood unit. I simply ordered a cubby hole for the dash from my OPC and the double din cage. The ac controls were moved down.

Don't listen to them. The fascia surrounds you can get on Ebay DO fit the double din headunits on cars with cup holders. Verification can be sought from the guys on the 911uk.com forum.

I did the install of a Pioneer double din unit myself. Got a fitting kit from Ebay for around 35 which included the loom and fascia kit and got it all working with my Bose system. It may have been easier on mine because it had PCM1 and was pre MOST.

checking pix of double din installs you can def retain cup holders , but if you have pcm 2 (the one with the built in phone ) its a bit of a pain , my info is that you have to buy an expensive optical connector to make the new screen work with the bose or buy a new amp to drive the speakers /sub bass , does anyone have this done and what specific tech did they get and is it significantly better sound for your 1100 squid please????

Thanks for all the help chaps ,I have seen some pictures with cup holder still in place so thought it was odd that the company selling them said they would`t fit. The other thing Ive noticed is some of the fascia have porsche written on them either at the top or bottom but the ones on ebay are blank, any idea`s ?

If you can get hold of the 996 spares catalogue you might find an official double din porsche surround in there. I know there is one in the 997 catalogue. It seems that this was for the japan market where the PCM wasn't fitted and people could spec a standard pioneer, kenwood etc unit when purchasing a 997.

Can someone please post a link of the correct part? Are you 100% sure you can retain the cup holder?

There are 2 commonly used cage/fascia kits. The one with Porsche on the fascia was discontinued about 2 years ago. The one that says its incompatible with cup holder cars is made by Connects2. E.g
- Connects2 CT23PO02: http://r.ebay.com/JiF9CJ

However, it fits fine if you fit the fascia upside down. See install pics at:
