So, with electrics being my nemesis it turns out I have another electrical issue with my fireblade. The speedometer, tachometer and temperature readout have stopped working. But, the neutral light, indicator lights, full beam light work on the clock unit. The unit's backlight works as well when you turn the headlight on.

Its driving me up the wall. I've checked fuses, pulled plugs, re-engaged to try to find a dodgy contact and this hasn't fixed them. Stupid question but are there motorcycle electronic specialists? Would this be a simple fix for someone who knows what they are doing? Can anyone recommend anyone near Warwick?

I've googled and some people said fuse, checked that, its ok. Others say faulty speed sensor, but why would that take out the temperature part of the clocks? I'm leaning toward it being a problem with the clocks themselves. So I checked ebay and found some replacements which either had stratospheric mileage on them, or look knackered. I then spotted someone advertising a repair for what appears to be the exact symptoms I have.

Does it sound dodgy to anyone? I might give them a call in the morning to see if they could help out.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did it get fixed? Was it simple?

In my experience, Electrical Gremlins are never simple...

Nope sorry, I have never heard of this before.
Give the chap a ring in the morning, see what he says.

btw have you disconnected the main connector on the back of the clocks at all?

Yep, and the two relays just in front of the clocks, and any other connector I can find that looks like it may be linked to the clocks. I was thinking of buying a new front harness as its relatively cheap but now think it may be a problem with the clocks after finding the advert on ebay.

I have no idea. What would this look like and where might it be located?

Sounds plausable yes

OP, it'll either look like a relay or be built onto the circuit board inside the clocks.

I've spoken to the people in the ebay advert. They said post the clocks off to them registered post and they will look at them and let me know if they can fix them. Tempted to go for it as I don't really have many other options and I want to ride my bike without guessing how many points i'm on for at any one time....

If it was built into the clocks is it something I could fix without a soldering iron or any electrical understanding whatsoever?

I had a similar problem (well, similar symptoms) with a GSXR.

Turned out to be a burnt out stator. 5 minutes checking the voltage with a multi meter should tell you if you have an issue there.

Hope not, had that prob a couple of years ago and eventually paid out for an unrated version. Can't remember where from but that's quite a well known prob on cbr929's as well I think. Back then I had problems with engine cutting out (in the outside lane of the m6 on the way home after the cov Honda dealer who shall remain nameless said there was nothing wrong with it even though I told them the exact symptoms.....) . Anyway, the engine is running fine at the moment and hasn't cut out (had to ride home from work with no speedo).

Think I'll send the dash off on Monday to see if it can be fixed.

Thanks for the help guys.

Quick update. On Monday I sent the speedo off to Mark at Scorpio Electronics in Kings Lynn who were the people advertising the repair service via ebay. He called during the week to say it was possible for them to repair it, so paid up and today received the speedo back. At work currently but hoping it should be fixed. Will plug it in when I get home. So hopefully this weekend.....

Plugged it back in and fired it up. Works, so all good. Would recommend Scorpio electronics if anyone has similar issues.
