Celebrate 40 years of the Golf GTI!

Mark four decades of a hot hatch legend with Volkswagen and PH at - drum roll please - the PH VW Golf GTI Open

A lot has changed over the last 40 years, but during that time the iconic Volkswagen Golf GTI has remained a constant and evolved through seven generations. Rightfully the nice people at Volkswagen are really proud of this and want to celebrate in style, and they've asked us to get involved too.

Clubsport S will be there for its first UK show
Clubsport S will be there for its first UK show
What they've come up with is an enticing proposition for anyone that owns a Golf GTI. On Saturday August 20, Volkswagen are inviting GTI owners to come along to a special celebration morning at their HQ in Milton Keynes. Aside from being a part of this unique one off event that is the only official celebration of the 40th anniversary taking place in the UK, there will be GTIs of all vintages for as far as you can see! Volkswagen's own heritage vehicles will also be on show, as will the already-legendary Golf GTI Clubsport S, which is a UK first. On top of all of this, they're laying on free food for all attendees as well as top notch refreshments courtesy of the Volkcafe. There will also be some other goodies and entertainment to top it all off.

There is a maximum of two people per car. Just to be absolutely clear though, anyone is welcome to sign up providing that they are driving a genuine Golf GTI. No R32s, Golf Rs or Rallyes allowed. Only Golf GTIs. They'll have a GTI aficionado at the gate and they really won't let you in if you're not in a bonafide GTI!

The PH Team will be in attendance, and we'll have our merchandise stall set up for you to buy stickers and T-shirts just like we have at Sunday Services. We're sure it is going to be a fantastic and very memorable morning, so if you have a GTI make sure that you don't miss out on being a part of this special celebration.

Information:
Tee off time:
0900h, Saturday August 20
Close: 1200h
Refreshments and breakfast: Free for all attendees
Passengers: Allowed, one per car (maximum 2 people per car)
Children: over 16s only
Merchandise: PH stall in attendance, cash and card accepted

Entry to the event is now closed, but check back soon for a review of the event!

A bit disappointing that they are making it GTI only, would have been nice to pop along.

Celebrate 40 years of a truly iconic vehicle, but only if you have one, else wise, fk off.

I know what you mean and I did ask if we could invite other people to not be part of the display, but for a variety of reasons they couldn't accommodate the request.

Basically think of it like this; it is a Birthday Party for the Golf GTI and they're rewarding anyone that owns a GTI by inviting them along to take part. Even us lot at PH have had to borrow a Golf GTI in order to attend! Lucky for us they've been kind and leant us a Clubsport S, which we can't complain about cool

On a more positive note, those of you who do own a GTI and are coming along to take part in the celebration will have a fantastic morning. Equally it would be nice to see any GTI owners that are coming along with a spare passenger seat offering out to the community... it would seem the "PH" thing to do!

We're very much looking forward to the event and hope to see lots of you there!

We get dispensation for organising it. And we are all gits that work for PH... which does have the occasional perk!

But yes, it should be a great event!

Shame it's for "current" GTI owners only, not for any past owners which we both are or any potential future GTI owners which this could have attracted.

Ah well never mind it is their open day so their choice on who to invite smile

Hope it's fully subscribed anyway

Pity I no longer have one, I had nine over the years and was a founder member of CLUB GTI. Now I'm an old fart of 66 - how time flies...

I wonder if I can sneak in with my wife's (Polo) GTI. On a serious note though, you can't blame them for only allowing Golf GTI Owners to such an event, especially with low numbers.

Have a fun day out for those that qualify smile

This looks to be a great day celebrating the Golf GTI. Used to own 4 of these, 3 Mk1 GTIs and a Mk 2 with a VR6 engine.
Don't have any of them now and have upgraded to TVR 5 litre which makes the Golfs feel slow.

rolleyes

I'm presuming that the 150 spaces for GTI owners is just to fill the dealership car park and that if you park elsewhere you can still turn up and have a look around?

Official advice from PistonHeads HQ: Do not feed the trolls.

In the nicest possible way Sir, this thread clearly isn't for you....

I'm afraid not; it is being held at Volkswagen's HQ (not a dealership) so it is completely fenced off. To my knowledge they sadly won't be allowing anyone in on foot... Hence my comment about finding a spare passenger seat alongside a friendly PHer!
