I know this has been asked in the past, but following a couple of big claims, it seems the insurance of Ultimas has moved on a bit.
So could anyone recommend an insurer?

(clean license, 49, history of some quick cars )

Cheers

For me it is Competition Car Insurance - 4K miles, 5 track days, agreed value of over £50k with a premium of just over £400.

59 year old git, clean licence and no claims.

CCI seem v inconsistent with premiums. Paul always gets a good deal, but they are never competitive for me. I use classicline - includes trackdays too. I've never managed to get close to Pauls premiums (I guess one benefit of being an oap Paul? biggrin)

Footman James do me for under £300 for agreed value of £50k and 4k miles. I did read that they weren't going to take on more Ultimas but I was with them last year and there was no issues at renewal. Previously I was with Adrian Flux and, while I might have been lucky, I found them to be great as well.

All good news, many thanks.
Particularly like the included track days.

A slight word of warning here. I've been going through the process of looking at insurance for a GTR. For years I have used Competition Car Insurance and I had a policy on my last car which I sold last year to go looking for an Ultima. I called them about taking a new policy on regarding the GTR - I have no points on the licence, no claims and I'm an old guy. One of the questions I was asked was 'will you be using the car on track'. Now the policy normally has 5 days track days included but I have never used them. My answer was no probably not. They then refused the policy because the car would not be tracked. At that I said OK you've made me decide to take it on track and was told they had a recording of me saying no so the refusal stood. Unbelievable. I then asked if their owner company Footman James would insure the car and was told no they've stopped insuring Ultima cars. So be careful..
I've got quotes from Classic Line and Adrian Flux - both offer reasonable quotes especially the former but more I suspect than if had re-insured with CCI.

I do track my car, and AF won my business fair and Square over CCI last year.... so possibly not.

Insurance companies alter the cover they offer for new policies on niche cars quite often. It doesn't take too many expensive prangs to significantly alter the risk profile. Even tho I renewed with Footman James as an existing customer my most recent experience with AF and my Ultima was great and all other things being equal I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Rob - so they've effectively said you can't change your mind? What a load of cack, you should get the advisors name and speak to their line manager.
CCI do seem to be all over the place, it's like a lottery with them.

I suspect that CCI want to get out of insuring Ultima cars and will only keep continuos policies going. It seems daft to me to bar a policy because someone isn't going to use the highest risk part of the insurance. But then who said insurance companies are logical.

So it's that time of year..... i've been with Classicline for 3 years and the renewal went up less than 4 quid. BUT CCI came back at £200 less at £423.

Just goes to show that it's still worth shopping around.

i will tell you a little story. facts
i had classic cars for years. as you know additional cars dont gain lots of no claims if you buy more.
when i sold my sunbeam tiger with 6 years no claims i bought the Ultima. tranfered the no claims from one to another
joined CCI and have always praised their prices, service and helpfulness until....
i had someone run into the back of me... low speed.. car went to the factory at my request and they did a fantastic job..... but
the year after the premium went up... 25% from 303 to 410
the year after up again
and again each time im told , sorry its insurance raises,,, but i still praised them!!

last month... i bought another vehicle... try to insure it on compare.com. insured it then a week later got a letter... you had an accident.. said it wasnt your fault.... records show you were to blame...???????

i rung avia and they confirmed ,, omg. they made mistake on computer. it wasnt your fault at all... very sorry/// van insurance sorted.. and then ok'd

so . i rung cci.... what do you see? yes my fault? but its wrong? oh yes... thats ok... always been with avia so you will be ok... yes but no claims has gone from 9 years to 4? my policy cost me more year on year???? why did my policy go up? dont worry its fine they not over charged... blank...

thought about it rung back and gone nuts and after 2 weeks still waiting a call.. ithink ive been over charged for last 5 years

i have bmw m3 track with them too... really supprised and ashamed to say after always recommending them be careful

ultima is due in next 2 months and if not sold by then i will be shopping arround ( yes stoner it is finally advertised)

Unfortunately insurance companies are honest likeable people, until you make a claim!

Had an interesting conversation with out local Mercedes body shop manager a couple of years ago. Wife had a supermarket biff by another driver. Merc chap said they would not do the work if the other party's insurance company was one of a number of TV add names, as they didn't pay the bill or chopped a big chunk off the invoice!!!

We were lucky the other party was acceptable and the work was done by Merc. No cost to us.

It is a good thing to get your insurance company to confirm in writing that any not-your-fault repairs carried out to your car do not change your no claims situation.

My previous Discovery had a repair as a prat did a 'U' turn in front of me without looking. My NFU Mutual Ins Co took the other driver's company to court (he had emigrated to US) to ensure they paid and I kept my no-claims. No cost to me.

The cheapest quote is not necessarily the cheapest, long term.

But we all know this......

CCI told me , excisting customers are ok..tell them you are excisting and get another quote

i recon its because the new ''EVO'' car is promoted as 1000 plus hp, and as our insurance allows modifications they now think we are all going to stick 1000 engines in them!!

Being penalised for not taking it on track is just crazy. However, here(Ireland) an insurer would run a mile from anyone if they mentioned performance.

On a side note, Dom, your car looks ace in the ad! Good thing I don't have any cash. GLWTS

Lots of probs and craziness with insurances.

CCI won't insure the AA2 but A-Plan will - they have a specialist dept.

The 'standard' insurance companies were quoting in excess of £1500 where as CCI where quoting £650 including trackdays.

CCI at mo are still insuring my Ultima.
