I thought the subframes were fitted to OE legs. In any case, its had a good whack.

Standard amount of bumpers cars going on as usual.
Nope, it all gets chopped off! Just as well really with the damage it will have sustained

The legs are removed completely, the whole front end is a tubular subframe attached at 6 points to the roll cage at the bulkhead.

I have some pics somewhere I think

Wow - who last year would have forseen poles on day one for Smith and the Maximum Motorsport Focus? I wonder if Lines plans on taking the keys back from Cook when he's fit again?

Ouch, that could have been nasty.

Whoever nudged the red/yellow car should make a swift exit from the track I think!

The wheels coming off issue has been known about since early testing. Our guys (Handy) have said it's simply a matter of upping the torque....they've gone from battery guns to air.

Rob Austin excluded from race 3 - don't know why though.

Anyone know why Rob Austin has been disqualified from race 2?

It means that Chilton is on pole not Cook, BTCC have tweeted but not explained

Statement from Austin on his FB page:

" I am deeply embarrassed by this there is no one to blame but myself. I have let down my team who have worked so hard to give me a fantastic car, my sponsors and my fans. I don't know how but somehow I failed to see the yellow flags when I went up the inside of Andrew Jordan, who I have been to apologise to as well. There's not a lot else I can say, overtaking under yellows is exclusion and I deserve my punishment. The move was clean until Morgan hit us, sending Andy sideways, I kept my foot in an attempt to straighten him back up but I should never of been alongside in the first place.
Sorry to everyone who I have let down"

They just replayed Austin's move under yellows, did anyone see a yellow flag at the marshal posts he passed?

Yup, double-yellows at the top of the screen just before he went up the inside. Can see how he missed it, though.

Wheels used to come off Porsche 962s 30 years ago and they were doing 250mph down the Mulsanne straight. Different rates of expansion between the hubs and wheel nuts I seem to remember.

The answer then was the same as now - torque them up tighter. The torque wrenches used were about 5 feet long.

A hugely enjoyable day's racing. This season looks wide open, although the BMWs do look very strong. Good to see a few names pushing further up the grid than usual as well - Epps, Hill and Jackson drove with real passion today. Surprised to see how much BMR struggled (albeit with quite a few problems not of their own making) - I'm sure they'll bounce back at Donington, though.

Not a bad last race, Turkington shows how to race and overtake without playing bumper cars unlike Neal .... That last corner Neal would have kept his foot flat to the floor.

I'm not trying to piss on Shedden's chips here, but precisely HOW is he leading the championship?

Do the points increase race on race? How does it work? Ingram drove like a demon all day and consistently scored in every race, but somehow is second?

Too many cars on a tight track, I have a plan, make the drivers pay for any damage they get, that might mean a bit less contact and more racing
They do have to pay for damage to their cars, that comes as a separate invoice anytime now...

I remember Jeff Smith when he first started racing for Eurotech having an 18k bill Sunday night just for damaged parts.

Agreed. Even if they weren`t team-mates, you know Turkington doesn`t drive that way. Sadly Neal, Plato and Collard do though mad

I thoroughly enjoyable Sunday afternoon thumbup although I wandered off and did something else when the single seaters were on. I`m sure they are great to drive but they just aren`t great to watch on TV I`m afraid.

He's wasted in touring cars imho.
