McLaren 570GT: PH Video

Latest PH Fleet addition gets its initial shakedown, Dan appears to quite like it...

As you may have noticed recently the PistonHeads Fleet has acquired a new vehicle, Editor Dan the lucky recipient of a McLaren 570GT. Having been allowed to spec the car to his heart's content, Dan chose Ice Silver for the outside, a set of optional forged wheels and the iron brakes instead of the ceramics. Inside is where most of the options were selected though, with upgrades including extended saddle leather, the GT pack (B&W sound system and parking cameras) plus a nose lift.

Obviously, Dan took the 570GT down some his favourite Moorland roads for the first drive after collection. It is the perfect comparison with the 570S that he has also driven on the same tarmac. He discusses the differences between the two, as well as how he feels it compares with key rivals. Has the 570GT blown him away as much as the 570S had? Here's the vid!

Watch the video here.

Mmmm.

But I'd have to have it in orange.

You had the chance to spec a 570 GT and you chose silver.

Oh Dan...

The only good thing about silver? It's not orange.

Oh Dan...
You must have missed the announcement on PH Alex.

Dan was effectively "guided" by the dealership what to specify .......

Oh my - that Saddle Leather hurl

To be fair if I was nudged it was subtle enough that I didn't notice it happening ... but maybe that shows they're good at what they do!

And the Saddle Leather is a lot nicer in reality than in photos - rather less 'Cheshire' and really rather pleasant. Glad I went for the black steering wheel though.

Cheers!

Very very nice, shame about the wheels being black (and 'paying' over £1000 to have wheels painted in matt black hehe )

I like this spec - it is actually different but looks great! I wouldn't have thought about it and would have no doubt chosen dull resale grey metallic and black interior.

However, Dan's comment about the black steering wheel was a good one......I was in my local Porsche garage this morning......why do people spec their interiors in a sea of beige or grey or saddle brown without thinking that you really can't do this without putting in a black steering wheel and black dashboard top! Beautiful red 911 S in red and got closer to discover the most disgusting interior - sea of bright tan and nothing to break it up. Yuck!

Looks great and nice to see a more road than circuit option is available. Is that the A635?

It's just that the car is perfect in every possible way....except it's not orange.

The 570gt is the only McLaren I like but I still struggle with its face.

Is it a trick of the light, or does the leather fit/finishing look a bit baggy in some places (passenger seat shoulder bolster, passenger airbag cover).

like it a lot... always reminds me of the Lotus I had, but x10!
Interested to hear how it is over a few months, and to what degree the performance is 'fun' at road speeds.

Strange deal - McLaren let you have one of these for free for six months, you spec it like an old man's car and then you re-pay them by doing barely any prep (spec sheet in hand, fumble, fumble) and dumping any video production values at the showroom door.

Seriously I like PH but you're going to get a poor rep with crappy efforts like that.

Choosing options for my new car, I lost sleep over it, spent hours and hours on a configurator and studied any picture I could find of different spec'd cars to see the differences and make the right choices.

Not saying the choices made here are wrong, but what I do know is that at the end of my speccing process, I could tell you absolutely every little detail of the spec without having to look at a sheet of paper.

Reading from the piece of paper like its the first time you've seen the spec.
