Hi all, I am considering a s2 111R purchase and while searching I have seen a few Honda conversions. I'm not familiar with these cars so sorry for the newbie questions but what is the advantage of these Honda conversions?

Honda puts out 220bhp, I think as standard, the 111R Toyota engine 189bhp
I seem to remember that the Honda engine is also lighter and sits lower than the Toyota engine, so provides a lower CoG(I could be wrong on one or both of these)

The primary reason people go for the Honda engine, is the upgrade route. Super Charge the engine and some maniacs are pushing 330bhp. Not sure many suggest going this high, but high 200's is considered reasonable.

Mostly done on earlier K series cars, loads of different engines fitted Audi, VR6, duratec etc. My personal favourite would be a Steve Williams S1 2.3L duratec. The boss says no

Bottom line, it's for more power. It's mostly done on the earlier Rover K-series based cars. The conversion usually costs several £000's whether you get the job done or buy a converted car.
Drive a standard Elise first. Many drivers delight in the fine handling of the lower powered models. Others feel the chassis can safely handle more power.

Not much else to contribute other than to go for it. I adore my 111R, obviously I'd also love a Honda engined car - But for my first voyage into Lotus ownership I wanted something OEM & factory built.

Another happy 111R owner smile
Unless you pay over the odds for a car then it's a pretty risk-free car to try, as you can move it on for about what you paid for it.
As a Scotsman once advised me when I asked him how you could tell a good whisky from a bad one - "There's no such thing as a bad whisky. Some are better than others, but none are bad" - same could be said for an Elise...

I am thinking about selling my Elise 111R I have had it over 2 years. It is a great car I just fancy a Caterham 7. It is red 2005 plate 49k.

Send me a messasge if it is of any interest to you.

I have a 111R, and I've owned a Civic Type-R. The Honda lump is a nicer engine, though a similar kind of thing, but if I wanted a Honda converted car I would buy one that used to have a Rover engine. They are lighter and have the nice unassisted brakes. The incentive to convert the Rover engined cars is also greater so there are more of them about.

Did you sell?

I'm considering venturing in to Lotus ownership for the first time.

Maybe so as not to be selfish and let others enjoy the cars? Seems to be a lot of people looking as well. Everyone I tried to buy sold quickly and was no chance of a discount. I have one now so I'm happy.

No, but the roof comes off.
Notice a theme ?
In reality, I rarely have the roof on. I have had mine for 77K miles and I seriously doubt I have done more than 10% with the roof on
