Aston Martin Vantage 'AMR' launched

Not the super limited AMR Pro, here's the racy new Vantage that you can use on the road

Remember the Geneva motor show? March may seem a while ago now but, amongst the Alpine A110, Ferrari 812 and McLaren 720S, Aston Martin also launched its 'AMR' range of cars. There was an AMR Pro Vantage, and the AMR Line Rapide; now we have the latest addition to the AMR range, just in time for Le Mans, the Vantage AMR.

Looks quite good, doesn't it? Oh sure, the Vantage is a familiar design now - and of course soon due for replacement - but that doesn't stop it being very pretty. For the AMR model four colour combos are offered, in a similar way to the old N430 special edition: there's Stratus White with an orange graphic, Ultramarine Black with blue, Zaffre Blue with red and Scintilla Silver with grey. An additional 'Halo Pack' is also available and is seen here, adding Lime Green accents to a Stirling Green base. The Union Jack wing badges can also be added, because why wouldn't you want to copy the race car?

Indeed, if that isn't enough, there are a range of 'AMR Accessories' that can be added too. Take a look at the white car here for an idea of how that will look; the Aero Kit is the most obvious change, but there are also a set of forged aluminium wheels and a titanium exhaust that saves 14kg from standard.

As this model aims to celebrate the success of Aston's GT4, GT3 and GTE Vantages, the AMR model will be offered with V8 and V12 engines. The V8 makes 436hp, with the V12 now up to 603hp from 573; both are offered with manual or paddleshift gearboxes. Oh goody. And if you're struggling to ever tell them apart, the V8 has five-spoke wheels and the V12 10-spoke.

Don't forget the accessories catalogue too...

While only coupes are shown here, the AMR Vantages will be offered as Roadsters as well. Very motorsport. Each interior colour scheme is matched to the exterior you choose, with all leather for the drop-top and then some additional Alcantara for the coupe.

Fancy one? Best move fast, as just 300 AMRs are being made: 100 V12s and 200 V8s, with no fixed split between coupe and Roadster. Prices start at £97,995 and, if you're down at Le Mans this weekend, a pair of Vantage AMRs will be on display - keep a look out!

Great looking car, always has been....but surely well overdue for replacement now.

Unfortunately, I'd be far more tempted by one of the myriad 911 variants (if you could find one that Porsche will actually sell you)

Have to say that V12 is porno, can't beat a bit of stripe work. Who cares if it's an overpriced special?

Is there any other car on sale in the world with a V12 and a manual gearbox? Sounds like a good niche to be in.....

Not only that, its an NA V12, with proper hydraulic steering, with a manual gearbox. Pretty good niche I would say!

Old school cool. So much more interesting than twin turbo V8 with EPAS - to me at least.

Yep count me in too, if my numbers came up, I'd pick a manual V12 Vantage over many other twin turbo'd, dsg'd, overdone supercars.

I was just playing a bit of "what if" and concluded that on the way back from the lottery office I'd swing by the dealer and buy this:

While the DB11 and the new one were on order.

I just don't get this hairy chested "Oh it's got to be a V12 and manual" load of tosh. Fact is the V12 in the Vantage is a fine piece of engineering but it sure as hell 'aint rocket science and the V8 is a bit all bark and no bite. DB 11 engine is a piece of genius though, clever electronics etc. Must be all that AMG cash. As for the manual gearbox, Aston Vantage gearboxes are absolute dogs. Manual is a dire and the sportshift is as crude as Frankie Boyle.
Having driven a DB 11, I think it is a stunning car though. Focus on new models, not these special edition what nots, is like dressing your granny from Top Shop - looks ok at a distance , but you can't hide the wrinkles when you get close-up.
Each to their own though I suppose, you pays yer money and all that. But in my opinion they are showing their age now, especially on the inside.

I would take the V12 Manual Vantage over any other car on offer today, fabulous looking car, great gear box, limited electronic interfernace.

You can keep your twin turbo 0-100 2.5s auto Porsche 911/997/998 or whatever it is these days.

I want to be involved and have fun driving a car, not stamp on one of two pedals and even have the steering electronically assisted.

There is NOTHING like a V12; reason enough smile Unless a Nurburgring laptime in an electric car totally trumps that of course wink

All bark and no bite except a V8 Vantage GTE has just won at LeMans.

Slight difference between a LeMans entry Aston to a road going version. Yes the new vantage is better but the 4.3 V8 vantage I owned was for want of better words "gutless ". Even at 4.3 litres it should have delivered more power, try buying one and then report back . And for those comments regarding the gearbox , the manual is a dog, first to second is dire, even journalists have commented about it.

Extraordinary car. A Must Have. What a fantastic experience to drive this sports car with a superb noise with the V12 engine, 7 speed manual dog led gearbox, remarkable balance, great quality and materials. This car is a beauty... Thanks Aston Martin for this chef d'oeuvre.
