Hi all, I know there is a lengthy thread running in "in-car electronics" but because of the mounting issues presented by the TVR, notably my Tuscan, what can anyone recommend.

I'm going to buy one but what a minefield it is out there!
So much information, and with absolutely no knowledge of these things, I need some help please.

Thanksthumbup

Cheap version?

SJ 7000 go pro equivalent
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-SJ7000-WIFI-Sports...
Sucker mount
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Adjustable-Car-Sucker-Ho...

Then just feed power to it with a a usb charger from the cigarette lighter socket - total cost about £40

Remove everytime you leave the car, seconds to fit back
Works well

So, I have been through this process too, and in the end, I bought 3 of these, 1 for each car: -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/M6-Plus-Recording-Snapsho...

I watched this review at first, and thought it was worth a punt: -

And some of these to hide the cable: -

I've had them for 6 months now, and am very happy with them. They're discreet, esp when using those clips, which stick well to the windscreen

Quality of the footage is very good, and the sound is ok too, my son enjoys watching some of the clips

I'm sure there are better ones out there, but these do the job for me

I have an eprance 0805 although i think these are no longer available other than from gearbest. i had to modify the pedestal removing the GPS chip to reduce the total height so it fits behind the mirror on the Cerbera

And the video isn't bad

Thanks for those, the go pro is a little chunky but a good shout at that price!

I think I'll go with the M6 Plus.
I have a question though, for you Jurgen, have you used it in the parking mode? the battery pack that the reviewer uses costs nearly £250.
I guess the alternative is to have it hard wired but that opens up another can of worms.....or am I missing something?

Thanks.

I'm going to have a MiVue 568 fitted to my Chimaera next week by Dan Taylor with hard wiring to ignition and wires neatly hidden away up A pillar and across screen. Too many bloody idiots on the roads these days not to have one of these.

Hi, I haven't used the parking mode. It switches itself off after a few seconds of unplugging it from the Cigar lighter. I haven't investigated the battery pack side of things, since I'm not so fussed about capturing footage from when parked up.

I only really needed one for 'on the move' footage. I've never had an accident, but I wanted to remove the witnesses' ability to say 'yes, he was making such a noise he must have been doing well over the speed limit...' when the dashcam with its built in speedometer, will state otherwise.

Now that I have one pointing forward, I'm wondering whether to get rear footage too, for those people who try to mate with my car whilst driving

I use the RAC05 after winning in a comp. must say it's awesome. Fitted so the view screen is just below my rear view mirror as rather than show me what's being filmed the screen can be set to gps speedo (whilst still recording) it also acts as speed camera notification and front collision detection.

Top piece of kit!

Did you ever end up getting a decent dash cam?

Recently bought myself a Thinkware F800 Pro from the RAC website with the additional rear camera for that extra peace of mind. Works absolute magic - day and night.

It may be a good camera but those are rip-off prices, even worse the fitting charges. This is a simple diy job

I've got a Koonlung k1 dual camera system
https://www.amazon.co.uk/KOONLUNG-K1S-2-CHANNEL-GP...

Tiny cameras and a tiny recording module, with screen that goes anywhere you want. Wire it to the ignition circuit and it starts recording with power on, stops 5 secs after power off. GPS module

It all depends on what you're after really. High end dash cams are well worth the money if you're looking for a reliable piece of kit which does exactly what it's designed for - I've had dash cams in the past which break within literally a few days. Waste of time.

No, I haven't bought one yet, the car hasn't been used much.
The problem was that I was quite keen to have one with a parking mode and that brought with it a whole load more potential choices and costs.
Choices I wasn't able to make and costs I'm not able to justify confused
I'm technically inept and what may seem a simple "just plug the flanged end into the spare nodule located to the left of the wiring sprocket" is exactly that, to me, garbagebiggrin

I am grateful for the input & do return to the other dashcam thread in search of enlightenment but so far nothing has made me rush to the shops. thumbup

I have just fitted a Next Base mirror cam on my Tuscan. As it fits on the existing rear view mirror it takes up less space which is ideal on the shallow windscreen. There are four or five suction cups that go on the mirror that need to go as low as possible so the lead dosn’t catch on the top plus two rubber straps that fit round the existing mirror so it won’t fall off. They sell them in Halfords for just under £150 but there was a promotion a while ago so it could be worth checking it out. Not a very good picture but it may give you some idea.
