Hello. So had a run-in with police about the lack of front reg plate on my Performante. I have got the bracket for mounting the plate but it seems pretty savage to just screw it into the nose and splitter on the thing. Has anyone on here fitted one or even better come up with an alternative?
When you say "run-in" what do you mean? A friendly discourse along the lines of "do you know you haven't got a front number plate sir?" , "Oh I am sorry, it fell off in a parking incident officer" etc.etc. or something more serious?

Just asking for a friend wink

Yeah I have a small plate already made up for it, from the same place actually. However I only just received the bracket you mount the plate on to and I was trying to establish the best means of attaching it without just screwing it into the front of the car.

Can you see how yours has been secured to the car?

Thanks

More along the lines of I had been hoping not to run into them but unfortunately they clocked me on Sunday. Unmarked car (which I had spotted), followed me all the way to a marks and spencer car park and once I had parked they turned on the blue lights. Thought that was quite amusing seeing as they had blocked me in and I was half way out the car.

Anyway....yes where’s your front plate? and I showed him the one that had been on the dash but was now in the footwell! Long story short, £100 fine and a warning about the spacing of the rear plate

Its fixed with 4 very small screws on the underside, if you where to remove it you wouldn't see the screw holes unless you got your head on the floor. plates have been screwed on the front edge of bumper for years and if the plate is left on its not a issue, with this solution it can be taken off with no visible sign of fixing holes, the bracket hasn't got much surface area to use double sided pads and it might come off due to pressure at high speeds,
I fixed mine on myself, if you get it on the ramp so its at a comfortable working hight and tape work area for marking and drilling its a very easy job, half hour at most, not sure where your based but i would be happy to fit it for you if you want to come over,
as you can see below, I've stuck a full size plate on for a comparison, the problem with a full size it sticks out each end due the shape of the front of car,

Standard number plate looks awful, the small one looks cool.
I got done on day 1 in my Gallardo Performante as the boy in blue have got nothing better to do in my part of the woods. Ended up with same kind of bracket and small number plate

Also to be doubly safe I printed off a page from the DVLA website about the use of smaller number plates and I always carried in the car. Was never stopped again anyway as I don't think they can really see the font size difference from a distance and realise its a shortened PP
The Road Vehicles ( Display of Registration Marks) (Amendment) regulations 2002 SI no. 2687 came into force in November 2002.

These amendment regulations introduce a new regulation 14A, making special provision in relation to the size and spacing of characters in the registration number of some imported vehicles. These regulations also include the display of motorcycle sizes number plates on imported vehicles. The provision only applies to vehicles imported into the UK which do not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval, and are so constructed, that the area available for the fixing of the registration plate precludes the display on the plate of a registration number in conformity with the requirements of regulation 14.

Also contained is an amendment to regulation 3, to prohibit the use of a number plate on which the background is patterned or textured, or gives that appearance.

Where a vehicle has been allocated a UK registration number, the number plate must comply with the specification and standards laid out in the Road Vehicles ( Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001, as amended. Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display numberplates with smaller characters if the vehicle does not have European Community Vehicle Type Approval and the vehicle's construction/design cannot accommodate standard size numberplates.

The dimensions for the smaller sized plate are:

• each character in the registration number must be 64mm high
the width of each character of the number, other than the letter 'I' and the figure '1' must be 44mm

• the width of every part of the stroke forming a character in a number must be 10mm
the spacing between any two characters within a group must be 10mm

• the vertical spacing between groups of characters must be 5mm

• the width of a margin between the number and the top and lateral sides of the numberplate must be not less than 5mm

• the space between the bottom of the number/character and the bottom of the plate must not be less than 13mm

madd0g cheers for that, that is the same bracket I have been sent. I did think it was tad small but it should be fine for the smaller plate.

Appreciate the offer but I am in Aberdeen so could be a long round trip. Getting it fitted tomorrow so will post up once its done

Useful information above.

I'm also going to fit a front plate, can't be bothered with the hassle of being pulled over or the worry every time I pass a police car.

Have ordered a 12 x 3" and also looking at a shorter but legal height plate. Will see which works best.

Sorry chaps, could you point me in the direction of where you got the bracket from? I have this sort of on / off latent concern about not having a front plate on my Huracan and you seem to have a pretty decent solution there.

Really not worth given them the pleasure. I’d always have a legal front plate on.
I got stopped once, in the old days, for displaying my tax disc on the wrong side.
We spent 30 minutes “discussing” it - meanwhile, if a real crime is committed............

Well, the car is supposed to come with it, so your dealer should be able to send you one FOC.

I'm led to believe so by DVLA and some road cops I know but TBH If its not 100% technically correct and legal I don't think they notice the difference size font from a distance and if you showed the average PC the document from the DVLA re smaller plates on an imported vehicle not designed to have a plate due to active aero and radiator and brake cooling etc.... I think they would let you off as you are not disguising or hiding the number.
I ran 12x3 plate on both my 430 Scuderia and Gallardo Performante and never got questioned again over 2 years despite many cop cars staring at the cars

I placed a deposit for a Performante Spyder last week, hoping for delivery in March-May 2019. This will be my first Lamborghini so interested in what will be must haves versus nice to haves. I currently have a Volcano Orange 650S Spider. I really enjoy the fact I can cover long distances with no bother in this car, so I think for me the comfort seats are going to be the ones (blasphemy, I know).

This is the extract here ;

I don't seem to have it in a form I can upload and don't remember the link as it was buried somewhere deep and obscure at the time I stumbled across it.

I think if you showed your average traffic cop the above he would have to know the regulations inside out to query it.
If you run no plate at all you are an easy pull over but if you run a slightly smaller plate that they don't look at too closely they will not notice the difference. Its not completely obvious stationary from 10 yards with 2 plates side by side even

Whats everyone doing about Paint Protection Film ? Topaz want £6000 for a full body and £2,500 for front and side sills and a £1000 for a new detail.
Seems a bit rich to me and a case of getting fleeced on some film that probably cost £50 pm
