Lexus LC500 by Liberty Walk

Is the LC500 bold enough already? Liberty Walk is certainly making its stance clear...

Love it or loathe it, the current Lexus styling direction is certainly distinctive. Also firmly entrenched in the automotive Marmite category is Liberty Walk; it's hard to be impassive about either, the work of both so completely and defiantly bold.

And here's what happens when you combine the two, Liberty Walk's latest creations being based on the Lexus LC500. Yes, that's creations plural, because not one but two wide-body kits are on offer from LW for the LC; after all, why limit yourself to just one bonkers coupe?

They don't look terribly different from here, though. You've got rivets, you've got a ducktail, you've got camber - they're Liberty Walk cars, no doubt. The main difference between the two according to the website - aside from the significant price difference - comes in the spoilers, but even those look remarkably similar. Perhaps there are more details to follow in time.

As with previous Liberty Walk upgrades, the bodykits can be purchased in fibreglass or CFRP and as individual components. So if you just wanted the ducktail, for example, it's available from $2,000... The first complete kit starts at $13,380, the second at $15,650 - the carbon equivalents are $16,740 and $19,440 respectively.

Neither is a bargain then, but what were you expecting from Liberty Walk? The car is £90K to start with as well. Don't forget to add a few thousand more for air ride too. And perhaps another set of wheels. Still, for making an impact wherever you go, there can't be many more guaranteed ways to do so than with a Liberty Walk Lexus LC. Just leave the stickers off, OK?

I can sense this will go down like a lead balloon here. Still, it's more for the 'wikkid bruv' lot than the 'MX5 / 335D is god' lot.

(Tongue firmly in cheek).

I enjoyed the rare examples some of the early ferrari's etc but it's now got to be common place muck, the number of rocket bunny body kits for sale on ebay and every chav riveting bits of metal on to their cars has turned it sour for me.

Also there was something interesting in taking a very elegantly beautiful car and applying this styling, the Lexus is already aggressively styled, adding more doesn't improve it.

Completely classless.

Do people actually buy these products?

It looks horrid in a guilty liking way.

The original car is better though.

They probably don't even start to actually build one until somebody does. Those pics are photoshoppery.

I like that, very jet fighter. Would not want to own or drive it though, its more of an exhibit than a car.

This. Familiarity breeds contempt - too many copycats has undermined the whole look, originality etc.

This, x100. (though sorry Mark if I then take it elsewhere)

I can say that I never use the front page, only the forums/classifieds, I suspect I’m not alone in that by a long shot. I clicked on this only to affirm my existing predjudices (that LW make stuff I don’t like) - fair enough, they have a factory ‘style’, it’s just not my cup-of-tea.

What I object to is the weak justification of it even being worth an article. What’s the difference between the two kits? Why even publish if you don’t know?

If one posesses all the facts, then detractors can only take issue with the ‘stance’ wink of the article in question, i.e. I could click on the article, not like the LW content, and leave. If you’re missing out pertinent information however, then you deserve to be called out on it.

I want PH to give me insights & nuances, not regurgitated marketing spiel. Look at the EVO thread, there’s a lot of similar people out there.

For 2018 can we do ‘better’, please?

Saw the Liberty Walk Ferrari 488 at the Geneva Motor Show last April.

It made me sad to see such a finely honed performance car reduced to a sagging useless mess covered in bolt on tat.

Absolutely awful.
