Dunno why it took me so long, but I acquired one of these:

After years of messing around with various jacks I think I found the perfect lifting device for an Ultima (IMHO...)

It came with a bolt on rubber pad which I had to take off to get under the front, but with a lift of the front clip and a bit of wiggling it goes under and lifts straight up

Picked it up on ebay

Obviously, being made out of chinesium I would be doubly sure to ensure that the car is suitably jack standed before going underneath, nonetheless, its made lifting the car alot quicker and easier

I gather that you connect your new tool to an air line to raise the car is there a control fuction at the handle to regulate the air pressure? neat idea, lee

Yes, sorry. It doesn't need much of a compressor, I have small portable one that works just fine.

With a pair of these I can pretty much get all four wheels off the ground and the car movable around the workshop in 5 minutes...

What's the height of the jack when in the down/no air position? I'm trying to figure out how much clearance would be needed to get it under the front clip, and if the clip can be left on the car when raising/lowering... thanks!

Ever thought of using a couple of pieces of ramped wood to drive up onto to raise the front of the car??

75mm thick piece should give you about 175mm clearance under the front!

Or taking things a little further - this is what I did when I had a Noble:

The minimum height is 130mm, my splitter is at 110 so I cant go straight under the front. I lift the splitter and go in around the front of the front wheel and then under the chassis.
