C43 facelift extends to Coupe and Cabrio

Want nearly 400hp without the convenience of four doors? Mercedes-AMG has your back...

Obviously this was in the pipeline. The C43 saloon and estate have already been through a facelift transformation - we saw it ahead of Geneva - now the coupe and cabrio have been treated to much the same set of subtle updates. The most notable of which is the 23hp gain to the 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo engine bringing output up to 390hp, while torque remains the same at a 384lb ft peak.

The kicker is that you get a remarkably good looking car in the process - one blessed with the sort of rear-bias all-wheel-drive system that is all the rage at the minute. Of course the model is intended to stick it to the M Sport variants of the BMW 4 Series and the Audi S5 - both of which it exceeds in terms of power.

As ever, the devil is in the detail, although expect it to get a little repetitive if you've already pored over the saloon's update. The twin-louvre AMG radiator grille, 'muscular' front apron, new rear apron and aerodynamically engineered wheels all find their way to the three-door models, giving it what it's maker likes to call 'a more expressive' exterior. Carbon-fibre packs are optional, you won't be surprised to hear.

Inside, the cockpit has been fully digitized with three AMG specific display styles of 'Classic', 'Sport' and 'Supersport' and a new generation of steering wheel has been fitted whilst new optional AMG performance seats with Airscarf as standard are said to lend the interior an even more distinctive character with their racing look. No word on prices for both cars, but order books will open in April with deliveries starting in July.

I tell you what, I'm trying to find a used c63 estate with some particular toys on it, what a pain in the hoop. Rocking horse droppings spring to mind.

I believe that will be announced towards the end of the year. Gearbox will be updated to a 9 speed version, not sure if power outputs are changing though.

These 43s go pretty well for a 'fake' AMG.

Much better than a dag dag.

I spoke to product marketing a few weeks ago about it as I've ordered one for a customer. Maybe things have changed since I spoke to them
