Ford Fiesta ST from £18,995!

The first drive will arrive soon, but the Fiesta is already off to a very good start with a £19k price

Among its many talents, one of the previous Fiesta ST's most appealing aspects was its fantastic value for money; at launch it cost £16,995, making it look conspicuously affordable against rivals. That looks set to continue with the new three-cylinder version, with prices starting at £18,995.

Driven: read our first impressions of the new Ford Fiesta ST

For that buyers will get ST-1, boasting Recaro seats, Sync3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control and an 'NCAP Pack', which brings a lane-keeping alert and a speed limiter, as standard kit. Upgrading to ST-2 costs £1,000; same as it did before, and expect it to prove a popular trim level with this Fiesta ST as well. The premium brings climate control, heated seats, a larger eight-inch touchscreen and a Bang & Olufsen sound upgrade. Furthermore, it's only possible to have a five-door ST in ST-2 trim and above, which will likely further increase its popularity - that adds £650.

The range-topping ST-3 is £21,495. For that buyers will get sat-nav, rain-sensing wipers and additional driver assistance tech on top of ST-2 spec. The 18-inch wheels and red brake calipers that are also standard on an ST-3 can be specced on an ST-2, for £350 and £75 respectively.

Speaking of options, perhaps the most interesting available for the new Fiesta ST is the Performance Pack. Adding a Quaife LSD, launch control functionality and shift lights, it costs £850 on ST-2 and ST-3 models. Looks like good value to us...

Additional extras confirmed for the ST include full LED headlamps (again for ST-2 and ST-3only, costing £600), plus a blind spot info system with cross traffic alert for £475, available on all three.

Seven colours are available for the ST: Performance Blue, Silver Fox, Shadow Black, Magnetic, Moondust Silver, Frozen White and Race Red. It's not known yet which of these are standard and which are optional. That being said, even allowing for a £500 paint option, a three-door ST-2 with the Performance Pack, 18-inch wheels and the red brake calipers (because everyone likes red brake calipers) is still less than £22k. Doesn't sound like very much, does it? First drive by the end of the week!

So considering the equipment levels of the new Swift Sport that no longer seems so outrageously priced.

Given one of the big criticisms of the Mk7 ST was its awful headlamps, it seems a bit stingy to not offer the LEDs as standard on the ST3 or indeed across the range.

Do we know the reason behind the 10% price increase over the old model. I suppose this should be better (Whatever that means) and inflation?

I had an old model ecoboost as a courtesy car a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. I wouldn't swap it for my rwd coupe, but if I needed a relatively cheap, small family hatch, this is where my cash would probably go.

ST-2 with a few options sounds like the choice again. Seems good value at <£20k for a reasonable spec.

If it suddenly makes sense for me to buy a brand new car, I’m very keen on this

I think they've got a winner on their hands again. Not such a bargain as last time, but it's a slightly bigger car and the Pound has devalued against the Euro which will have had an effect.

I had the outgoing model for 3 years and I loved it to bits. Took everything I threw at it and lasted well. I'm sure this new car will be brilliant. For £ per performance and running costs I don't think it's beatable.

Given the ST is supposed to be sporty, I would have liked to see some technical details, such as bhp, 0-60, top speed etc.

I'd be in for :-

Fiesta ST-2 £19,995
Performance Pack - £850
18 inch Alloy Wheels - £350
LED Lights - £600

= £21,795

Maybe a 10% discount when all the dust has settled?

Evo have their review up already.

Performance wise, there is not much in it compared to the MK7 with a Mountune pack.

So performance blue is like the picture above in the article, not the darker blue normally associated with 'performance blue'?

It's been that way for a while I think. Ford have used it on promotional material for the Ford GT and Focus RS, but it wasn't available on the Focus RS (swapped to Nitrous Blue).

Spirit Blue on the previous Fiesta/Focus ST was darker and closer to the old Performance Blue seen on the MK2 RS.

Positive indeed but I can't help but think there was a better car to be had by developing in Belgium, rather than the states.

Handsome looking car. Fords always seem to strike the right balance between price and quality, and they almost invariably drive brilliantly. A few stinkers aside of course.

Ford really have this car down pat. Pretty cheap, far far better interior than last, better ride, still loads of fun, tunable and with cheap parts.

Hence why we see loads of them and hardly any hot Clios.

If I was 20 again.....

PS I think the only downside is that they took away some of the 3 pot thrum to make it more grown up and smooth. Mistake, make it thrummy with more character !

I'm quite curious to hear what it sounds like when it's running on 2-cylinders.

The blue used on the launch photos of the GT and Mk3 RS was 'Liquid Blue', but as Mafffew points out this was never available which is a shame as I think the Mk3 RS looks great in it. The pre-release images of the new Fiesta ST appear to use 'Liquid Blue' too.

I'm a big fan of 'Performance Blue', but I'm biased smile Anyway, glad to see it back!
