Coventry Motofest this weekend!

Supercars, touring cars and a fully competitive sprint in store as Motofest takes to Coventry once more

The Coventry Motofest is an event we've followed with interest on PH over the past few years, having driven there in 2015 and announced the news of a competitive element to this year's proceedings back in January. With 2018's Motofest a matter of days away, here's what showgoers have to look forward to.

The timed sprint on Coventry's streets has to be a big part of the appeal, cars from the various BARC championships competing on a short circuit during Saturday and Sunday. The organisers say this is the first time competitive motorsport has happened on a UK city centre street circuit since the Birmingham Superprix; the London rounds of Formula E having taken place in Battersea Park.

In addition there will be a dynamic display from the Power Maxed BTCC team and a huge exhibition from Jaguar, which should come as no surprise given Motofest's location. The main draw will be Andy Wallace driving an XJR-9, celebrating 30 years since that famous LM victory. Expect as well to see a TWR XJS, a Group 44 E-Type and one of the Long Nose D-Types.

If your tastes are a little more modern, then Motofest will also host the Supercar Driver club this weekend, with around 50 of their Bugattis, Ferraris and Lamborghinis expected to make an appearance. And there's going to be an autotest, too. And a Formula G gymkhana competition. And drifting. Whatever tickles your motorsport fancy, it looks like Motofest will have you covered.

Perhaps best of all, it's a free event. So you've really no excuse not to head along. The action kicks off at 10am on Saturday morning, with full details on the website. Enjoy the weekend!

I’ve never been before but I’ve entered the sprint on Sunday. I think it will be quite good doing one of the first sprints on public roads for 30 years. And as we are on set times I’ll be able to have a look around the rest of the show.

I’m competing on the BARC sprint. It was a good event last year. Lots on all around the city. Hopefully the weather will play ball.

My son is at Uni in Cov and mentioned this to me, as he really enjoyed it last year. Which of the days is better, Saturday or Sunday?

Content is the same both days IIRC so you won't miss anything. I have always gone on the Sunday (as I'm doing stuff on Saturday's) so don't know how busy Saturday is, Sunday is pretty busy but not too busy.
