Supercars in London: PH Gallery

June and July tend to be peak supercar season in London, and this year was no exception



As you'd expect, there has been no shortage of supercars in London over the summer. Whether it was Bruno Senna driving in a convoy of four McLaren Sennas, or Horacio Pagani himself at the wheel of one of three Zonda HP Barchettas down Sloane Street, we've seen it all these past two months, and we certainly were not disappointed.

A pair of beautiful Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Volantes stood out as a highlight. The first was a chocolatey-brown colour, and the second features swathes of satin red carbon (in a classy way, I promise). Other rare Astons we managed to catch on the street include the wedge-shaped Vantage Zagato, the ultra-rare DBR2 and a stunning blue DB4 GT.

Sitting very much at the opposite end of the spectrum, probably one of the most outrageous cars to appear in London, is the Apollo IE. This very expensive - and highly limited - 780hp, purple carbon monster was spotted in Knightsbridge parked behind the Koenigsegg Agera RS 'ML'. A very special pair indeed. Elsewhere around town we managed to snap a Ferrari 250 GTO and 250 California parked together, Gordon Ramsay's freshly delivered Ferrari 812 Superfast finished in satin green, and a Rosso Alltruadh LaFerrari, which is a unique colour named after a Scottish village!

Overall the summer so far has provided a fantastic display of cars of all shapes and sizes, and we look forward to showing you what else we've been able to find at the end of August. I am the photographer! I think it comes down to how busy the guys in the office are as to whether or not we put the watermark on. Thanks for noticing though

@Thomas Howarth - genuine question

Thomas, do you photoshop the front plates out for aesthetic appeal, or do most people seem to think they are above the law and not fit them?

Just wondering how they get away with it, especially as the majority of these are somewhat, err... conspicuous.

None of those looked photoshopped out. It's just one of those things supercar owners get away with. And even if they did get pulled its a small fine.

None of those looked photoshopped out. It's just one of those things supercar owners get away with. And even if they did get pulled its a small fine.
Thanks for the interest. No plates removed here. They come as they are. I'm not one to bemoan lack of front number plates, I don't imagine it makes them any worse at driving, and some of them really don't lend themselves to have a plate attached. If you've got the option of an unlikely and relatively speaking small fine, or drilling some holes in the carbon splitter of your LaFerrari, you'd probably go with no plate. I've seen small stickers used, but supposedly they're illegal anyway, so what's the point in bothering with a sticker if you still might get stopped.

I've always loved the look of this particular Zonda. There's just something perfect about that red stripe smokin Horacio Pagani's own HP Barchetta, as shown in one of the other pictures, might have looked even better with it's low windscreen, air intake and blue carbonfibre, but the spats over the rear wheels are just awful.

With regards to the front facing number plates, is there a greater penalty for not having them in London where I would have thought it would mean you can evade the congestion charge cameras?

in the US, 19 states (of 50) have done away with the front plate

among states that mandate plates both front and rear, there is a rising tide of disregard; in the past this almost never happened; now you see it on a daily basis, even in rather strict jurisdictions such as California

sadly, no US state is sufficiently intelligent to offer a smaller front plate, as seen in the UK and Oz

people with pointy-nosed sports cars are often those who risk going without a front plate; I have a pointy-nosed sports car

Nice pics ,my favourite is the red lipped old Ferrari ,250 Testarossa maybe.


The old stuff is WAY more interesting ,assuming they're not a replica.

Lovely mix of old and modern. Great that their owners are not afraid to venture out in somewhere as dodgy (traffic and crime) as central London rather than garaging them away with just the occasional covered trailer trip to some concourse event. i hope if London becomes a ULEZ it won't mark the end of these sightings.

Yep, just poor and lazy design by the manufacturers. Makes you wonder what else they couldn't be bothered to do correctly because they found it too tricky.

Motorbikes don't require front plates, why should cars?
