Hyundai i30 N 'N Option' concept

There's a more focused i30 N on the way; here's what Hyundai says it could look like...

Now this is a little confusing. While this Hyundai i30 N - the N 'N Option', no less - previews a harder, faster, firmer performance flagship for the i30, this isn't that car. Instead it is a concept that "gives a first glimpse of how Hyundai's high performance offer could evolve." So there's something coming that looks like this car, has features also included in this car and has this car's name, but isn't this car - got it?

That said, if the N Option that arrives does resemble this car, then it looks like hot hatch buyers are in for an absolute treat. Hyundai says the car showcases 25 different options for both interior and exterior, the aim to offer customisation "to driving enthusiasts who want to make their car more unique." Yes, we don't like that phrase either, but there are some very interesting additions on that options list.

Those 20-inch wheels are lightweight and use Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres - yes, the same as used on a McLaren Senna. While a larger wheel might prove worrisome for those with experience of the i30's fairly unforgiving ride on 19s, it could be that a reduction in unsprung mass might improve the situation. Maybe. Moreover, the larger rear wing and the bonnet are carbon, and the paint scheme is said to be unique to this car. While nothing has been announced, the brakes on this car certainly look larger than on a regular i30 N, too.

It all looks rather promising, and continues inside. There's Alcantara everywhere, bucket seats, racy red stripes and plentiful carbon trim. Probably too much carbon trim, truth be told, but there's a lot to be encouraged by.

The implication from this N Option release is that buyers will be able to pick and choose the extras that suit them and their intentions best; it could be just the body accessories, or the wheel and tyre combo, or some interior customisation. That's not confirmed just yet though, and Hyundai is no more specific than "the near future" for the Options Pack's availability, but rest assured we'll keep you updated when there's more progress...

Those seats look lovely.

I test drove an i30N and absolutely loved it.

Great cars, good to drive, decent inside, good value for money

For me - just ditch that rear spoiler, and those alloys just in a 19" version, but would prefer 18".
Wonder if the next gen of this will go haldex awd and 300 - 330 bhp ?

alright whos been spiking the punch at the Hyundai office party own up?

they seem to have went from making boring white goods to wanting to to chuck out rather tasty hot hatches with all manner of crazy options and specs.

when are we going to see a 400bhp 4wd one i wonder

love it

Why bother with awd? Latest crop of hot hatches are fairly even regardless of where the drive comes from.

Not keen on the bonnet unless it's required for a big increase in power (which I suspect is unlikely). As someone said above, it'd look (and quite possibly drive?) better on smaller versions of the forged wheels; I think 18 inch would be about right stylistically. Otherwise it looks good, although the rear wing is a bit incongruous on a FWD car.

I'm not entirely sure why the red stripe things are in different positions on each side.

Why does everyone want to put a 150kg AWD system in this thing? It's great the way it is. If they wanted the weight penalty they would have done it from the beginning.

Definitely something I'd be interesting in picking up on the second hand market in a couple of years... Really like what Hyundai are doing, as do many (even PH) - Only thing that stopped me from picking one up earlier this year is the depreciation curve.

Wow, Hyundai certainly have a swagger going on, with good reason, that looks ace, the normal one looks pretty good and drives fantastically, that answers the slight criticism of a less than premium interior I guess.

Are they selling well ? seems to be tempting a few PHers that way, but will the punters go Hyundai rather than the usual suspects ?

Am I alone in thinking the base car shape is actually a bit dull? That's the bit I can't escape from.

It's a C-segment hatchback. With the possible exception of the Civic, they're all pretty dull in terms of basic shape.

Lordy. I already wanted an i30 N. If you can have one that looks that aggressive, sign me up now! They should definitely offer those seats, adds a bit more of a racy feel to the interior.

Already wanted one of these, but give me those seats and the rear wing too!!. And they will probably be good used buys in a few years.
Where do I sign?

Quite surprised to see the 'ordinary' i30 N referring to PH review on their website: Hyundai i30 N.

What does the N stand for? I'm guessing the spec offered is so that it can attempt a 'stock' Nurburgring record?
With manufacturers offering the once traditional tuning upgrades (both performance and cosmetic) out of the box there's not really much you can do to actually customise it yourself.
