Sordo vs Lacondeguy: Time for Tea?

Or WRC vs X-Games. On a hill. In Portugal. Again

Hardly a new concept this, granted. But the day we tire of watching a proper WRC hand doing his thang for the camera is the day we pack PH up and move to the Greek Islands. Ditto, frankly, the spectacle of a pro downhill mountain biker rider not dying while careening down a near vertical slope.

Throw them both together and stir in the marketing budget afforded to a global energy drink manufacturer (not to mention an international car brand) and you get the cinematic equivalent of a Haribo Starmix: shiny, sweet, moreish and, yes, utterly frivolous.

Still, it confirms - if confirmation were really needed - that Dani Sordo and Andreu Lacondeguy (who apparently has LOVE DIRT tattooed on his knuckles) can drive/ride a bit. And that Lousa in Portugal is probably quite a pretty place to visit. Kettle on.

Hats off to both - but the bike guys edges it from an achievement perspective - surely? Downhill at those speeds must takes balls of steel and absolute lunacy, if not faith

As mentioned in the article, not exactly original - Rob Warner did the same thing for 'You BET' back in 2010!

How much quicker would Dani have been if not stuck behind the car filming him LOL

The best thing about it was the editing and the music...

As a total car nut, I preferred the bike.

Nice cinematography. Usual TG/Ken Block style but nicely showcases the appeal of WRC and downhill biking.

N.B. I recently used a downhill course as a shortcut when out running with my dog in the local woods. I believe the best word to describe them is vertiginous, I had to slide down quite a few sections clinging onto roots and trees.

Two satisfying noises, a WRC car on full chat and loud hubs on a mountain bike.

Can we have Neuville vs Atherton in Wales for Part 2 please Hyundai and Red Bull? Ideally incorporating the road gap on the Red Bull Hardline course.

Blimey that was slightly less realistic than watching the world wrestling. All the shots were contrived, it was fun watching and hearing the car but it wasn't a race. More like an advert for something

Are you saying that in order to film something this they have to do more than one to get l the camera angles and edit them together? Well fk me, film stuff isn't real!? Never...

Of course it's completely contrived, it's just good looking sports action ingeniously choreographed and edited. If you want reality watch Top Gear*
