Best Motoring 1994 spectacular: Time For Coffee?

Ever wanted to see a Ferrari 456 race a Ruf CTR, Honda NSX, Dodge Viper and an F40? Now you can!

All Best Motoring videos are good; the quality of the cars, the driving and the footwear see to that. Some, however, are better than others, as this 1994 Tsukuba track test proves. Where else are you going to see a group of cars like this being driven this hard other than Best Motoring?

'Gran Turismo IRL' reads one of the comments, but if anything this is better than the game. There are eight cars instead of six, not one but two Ferraris and the sort of incredible racecraft never possible with AI opposition. It's totally gripping to watch, even if none of the language makes much sense (subtitles are available).

But nobody needs words, really, with this group of cars and drivers. The video is not a procession; it's a proper race, with proper commitment. Look at the furious sawing away at the 456's wheel, the flames out of the Ruf and the incredible skill of the NSX-R driver to keep pace with the F40 towards the end. Oh yes, and the massive spike of boost in the tuned Supra that nearly sees it in the wall... To see any of these eight driven properly on a circuit like Tsukuba would be an event, so to have the full octet is a real treat.

It's not an especially new video, this one, or any more notable now than at any other point in its 25 year life, but if watching eight manual sports cars being thrashed at Tsukuba ever gets dull then it'll be a very sad day. Get the kettle on and enjoy...

Best Motoring is a fantastic channel on youtube, lots of fun car stuff. There are plenty of videos with english subtitles, but even if there are no subtitles, it's still fun to watch for the spectacle of it all. These guys seem to have fun whatever they drive!

That was awesome! I had to watch it at 1.5 speed as I didn't have the time to sit and watch for full 17 minutes, but those blokes were nutters! There was no 'gentlemanly' touring around - those lads didn't care a jot!

+1 Absolutely. Probably my favourite car channel on YT.

They even have a similar race to the above with a McLaren F1 although it isn't really in the mix due to the damp conditions.

The Honda NSX Type R must be putting out at least 350hp if some of their vids are anything to go by hehe

It's been said a few times over the years on Best Motoring NSX results - almost like the boot's been filled with nitrous! Supra amusingly lary/terrifying.

456 I think the most impressive there, given the size and weight that thing hung on incredibly well.

Absolutely fantastic! It's great to see the old NSX living up to it's giant killer reputation

Even though I must have seen that battle countless times, I can't resist watching it again every time it comes up.

When I first got my Supra the actuator had been rerouted so the turbos came on together in parallel rather than sequentially, which used to feel as lary as this old Veilside one looks.

No one in that race is on pace with the F40, he's just keeping it interesting.

Love this vid. There are other great vids with F40 v F50 v others which is great. I think that's at Sugo or Suzuka. Also, there was a vid but can't find it showing an F40 v Mines R34 Skyline and others. The Mines is a beast.

RUF seemed a bit off the pace. I like the Revson helmet design of the bloke in the standard supra. NSX looks v nice to drive.

Poor captions when Suzuki was talking in the post-race segment. When the captions were 'translating' the word "Seeker", he was actually talking about 'C-cars' - ie Group C cars, if anyone was wondering...

Later subtitle (about 13 mins 10 secs) claims that RUF had put the rear brakes on the wrong way round!

Tsukuba is a very specific track, high horsepower cars isn't getting much advantage there, longest straight is just 437(0.272 mi) metres long.

Forget the preening, narcissistic You Tubers agonising over how to spec their next supercar whilst dressed like children’s TV presenters and imagine a bunch of pro drivers replicating this format with today’s current crop of cars:

Pista vs Performante vs 720S vs GT2RS vs Ford GT vs Nismo GTR !

Bring it on.

Yes please. I'd like to see this but with the drivers having fun rather than bleating on about the cars. The Japanese drivers are clearly having a giggle and the way they jump around in their seats hoping to go faster or wave to the person who they're passing is just a laugh.

Absolutely!

There is enough stiff, corporate stuff out there.

Fun is underrated.
